The Otter Trail ends at Nature's Valley, a beautiful seaside village at the mouth of the Groot River. As a hiking area it has so much to offer! The Tsitsikama trail takes hikers through the ancient indigenous forests with incredible yellow-wood trees, drapes of lichen swaying from their branches. Bird watchers will be captivated by the forest birds, especially the calls of the Knysna Turaco echoing across the valley from the canopy.
The mouth of the river stretches into a beautiful lagoon. When the water is still and glassy the reflection of the surrounding mountains, that rise out of the sea, is majestic!
There is also a stunning long beach with dogs allowed in certain zones.
The village has maintained much of the indigenous flora and Bushbuck can be seen foraging...

Take a map tracker of sorts with you (even a phone with Google maps if you don't have a smart watch with map capabilities) as there isn't a lot of clear signage for this route, and we often found the actual path does not line up with the route maps. There are very steep, muddy sections and you cross over at a shallow part of the river, the beach and the lagoon mouth, so you will get wet, be it only up to knee deep. Great to do on...
