Our weekend at Mount Currie Nature Reserve was nothing short of spectacular. This beautiful little reserve, tucked away just behind Kokstad, is a hidden gem. Waking up to the soft calls of ring-necked turtle doves and the cheerful chatter of black-eyed bulbuls is a memory that will stay with us forever.

We took on the challenge of Mount Currie itself—a demanding climb that starts right from the campsite. The route is a tough, straight-up ascent, covering roughly 11 km round trip. But once you reach the top, the views are absolutely breathtaking, making every step of the...

Such a beautiful little reserve and great campsite with regular SA electric plugs at the spots and all! It's a pity there's no information about hiking trails anywhere. At reception they said to follow the trail at the end of campsite but we don't know how long it is nor where it takes. At one point we took another path that looked like a trail but it was probably a very used animal track that disappeared all of a sudden. Price for camping is 80 ZAR ppn and they only take cash so always ask for a receipt! Very bad basically inexistent Vodacom signal at...

We hiked up to the small koppie and followed wildlife trails for most of the 5km hike. Wear long pant and closed shoes.

Paid R40 per aldult per day. Park was open from 6am to 6pm.

We didn’t camp, but I would camp there. It looks very peaceful.

They also have cottages, but it were unaccessible to guests according to the park ranger.

Dayvisitor park looks nice, a bit unkempt. You’ll have to take your own...

East Griqualand, Kokstad, Mount Currie. Beautiful views from the town and can be seen covered in snow in the winter to early spring months. The town is known for its cold winters, so get the fire wood ready. Mount Currie is where Adam Kok tracked over before settling in the lower lands now known as Kokstad (Kokie Town) there are some hiking trails haven't been used in years up to the water falls.
