I got an opportunity to go visit Honeydew Mazes outside of Johannesburg.
As the name says, it is located in Honeydew and the main focus is mazes. So, upon arriving, you park your car, sanitise, register, buy your tickets (or supply a voucher if you have one) and then you are orientated with regards to where or how you want to proceed.
There is a small tuckshop selling snacks and drinks. From what I've seen, they don't really seem to sell solid foods (cooked food like rice or stews). You are welcome to bring your own lunch and snacks. Then, there are a variety of small group games. You can start with those or you can proceed straight to the main maze.
From what I have seen/heard, one of the mazes is made/consists out of maize. However, because it is currently winter it is nonfunctional. So we proceeded to do one of the other main mazes.
In that maze, you are testing your general knowledge, searching for clues and get lost a lot! It is good for teambuilding and bonding.
My only critique is that the facilities and resources of Honeydew Mazes are not necessarily sophisticated. What I mean by that is that a number of their facilities could get facelifts such as the male toilets for example. They function, but I did not like the condition they are in. Some of the games are painted on the floor and they could potentially just touch them up because they are fading away. The pencil they gave us for the games also needed a bit of sharpening.
But over and above all, the staff members are young and friendly and very informed. They know what they are doing. Be sure to check this out if you...
Read moreR150 for adults and R100 for children. Only open on weekends. I've walked through mazes before but I ❤️ the inclusion of general knowledge questions as an added element to the giant puzzle that is the maze.
Some questions are quite tricky but you can always cough use google to find the answer. Up to you, might spoil the fun.
It will take you about 90 minutes to complete the maze and all of its trivia. It's quite fun.
I encountered so many dead ends lol. My eyes were laser focused on looking for white clipboards which contain general knowledge trivia. You also need to look out for certain statues/animals that appear in the garden.
You'll obviously be walking a lot but it's not strenuous, it's an enjoyable stroll while getting lost. I managed to do everything solo, enjoy!
Answer enough questions correctly and you'll get some icecream at the...
Read moreThe kids and I had a wonderful afternoon out at the Mazes. The reed maze is large and intimidating but there are always maze watchers to keep us on the right track. The reed maze has 5 gardens scattered throughout you have to find them all along with a number of riddles and general knowledge questions. The questions do get changed periodically to keep the challenge fresh. It is a good 2 hour journey through the maze. There are some tables to chill at while you watch the kiddies in the small play area. There are some cool drinks available at the reception. You also get an ice lollie when you have completed the maze. The maize maze wasn't available so we missed out on that one. I am looking forward to possibly trying out the moonlight maze evenings. That looks like an interesting twist...
