A Hidden Gem in the Northern Cape Wine Landscape

What a wonderful and unexpected surprise! We decided to stop at Bezalel Wine and Brandy Estate on our way down to Cape Town, curious to explore whether the Northern Cape had more to offer beyond the well-known Hanepoots and Jerepigos. And we’re so glad we did.

The estate itself is beautiful, with a scenic drive through the vineyards leading up to the tasting area. We were warmly welcomed by a very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable gentleman who hosted our wine tasting. Rather than just repeating the usual basics of grape varieties and wine styles, he offered a much deeper and more practical explanation of the why and how behind winemaking and brandy production, making our experience both educational and enjoyable.

It was a real eye-opener to discover the diversity and quality of wines produced in this region. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Bezalel and only wish we could have stayed longer; if not for the long drive still ahead of us.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in discovering a different and exciting side of South...

We had a superb experience @ Bezalel Estate.... Martiens literally spent hours with us explaining all the different wines and brandy's, his knowledge is not only exceptional but his passion for what he does is so evident. He not only has a love for the vine, but for sharing his vast knowledge of every stage of growth until the final product, we also loved the fact that Martiens actually drew and designed the labels himself (they are so beautiful).... We felt he went totally above and beyond what we expected.

Of course there we some wines that we were not keen on as all tastes differ obviously... And there were some wines that literally tasted different with each sip which was totally fascinating to us..... But my oh my there were some ABSOLUTELY divine wines which we tasted and obviously bought.

We also bought some of the stunning preserves which were so tasty!!!

Aaaah Bezalel I totally have to award 5 stars to this stunning venue, if you are fortunate enough to visit I would highly recommend the wine tastings, preferably the entire range as that takes you through a pallet pleasing journey of great flavours, what also made it just as pleasant was the hostess who is friendly and accommodating and the piece du resistance the chilli shooter to end off with is quite a sobering experience, I went to other tastings in our week through Northern Cape and non matched the quality and flavours that Bezalel produce.
