Just had the privilege of visiting the breathtaking Gariep Dam Wall, and I'm still in awe of its grandeur! The sheer scale and engineering marvel of this dam is a testament to human innovation and determination.

The scenic views of the surrounding landscape and the dam's tranquil waters were simply stunning. It was a perfect spot for reflection, photography, and appreciating the beauty of nature.

What struck me most was the sense of pride and accomplishment that comes from knowing the importance of this dam in providing water and hydroelectric power to the region. It's a remarkable feat of engineering that has a lasting impact on the community.

If you're looking for a destination that combines natural beauty, engineering marvel, and inspiration, Gariep Dam Wall is a must-visit. Whether you're an adventure-seeker, nature lover, or simply looking for a unique experience, this place has something for everyone.

We left feeling inspired, uplifted, and with unforgettable memories. If you haven't visited Gariep Dam Wall yet, add it to your bucket list – you...

South Africa's biggest dam, and what a sight!

You can park your car next to the bridge & walk all the way across if you want. You can stop at various look-out points. Tip- look down near the sand bank to spot the BIG fish!

There are toilets near the parking area - the ladies toilets were closed when we visited and the men's were clean but a little smelly.

There are some blue-monkeys around, please don't feed them!

Go up the steps to the look-out point. It gives a great view of the dam wall and the massive body of water. *there was a lot of broken glass bottles on the steps during our visit, so be careful of that.

The dam is at its most impressive when the water is overflowing 🤩

Drive down to the lower road to see the dam wall view of the river & the best frontal view of...

Look so stunning😍... it's br middle of 3 Provinces. Such a calm place, and you can walk or drive through via top of the dam free of charge. From Johannesburg almost 6 hr 30 min Drive. Highly recommend place to visit and better if you stay atleas a night. There are many other activities available to do with extra additional cost. We'll maintain by the staff and the toilets are neat and very clean. The roads are very clean. Good 👍🏻 place to have a picnic 😊. Mostly, the weather is a bit windy. Better carry a light jacket or swert...

This dam was completed in 1972 and was built to manage the flow of the Gariep River, provide water for Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth, and hydroelectric power to the Eskom grid. However although we are on permanent load shedding and at level 4 on the day these pictures were taken, no electricity is being generated at the moment m, according to workers at the dam. The area is well maintained and there are braai facilities nearby. It is possible to drive over the wall and return over the bridge just below the wall.

A rather disappointing visit. I have been over the dam wall a number times over the past few years and this time I found the picinic area below the parking bays overlooking the dam wall unkept and there was a lot of litter lying around. The grass was long and untidy. The place looks disgraceful seeing that it's a national key point and the largest dam in South Africa. The feeling of pride had disappeared. A thumbs down to the Dept. Of Water Affairs and Dept. Of Public Works. Such a pity....
