We did 5 day Otter trail. Start from Stormsriver mouth and ends at Natures Valley. An amazing experience. With great highs, ascends and descends. You walk , shuffle, curse a little bit, laugh, smile, silent, listen to your legs talking back. As a man you value women who carry babies on their backs for days. That backpack is a constant reminder that you are stronger than you think. My foremothers who were and still are great story tellers, used to tell me that Nkulunkulu, Qamata first church is and was always nature. One should always go back to nature if one wants to breathe pure air and think pure thoughts.
Day 1 = 5km , +2hours Day 2 = 7,7km , +4hours Day 3 = 7,8km , +4,5hours. Includes Lottering river crossing. Day 4 = 13,3km, + 7hours ( you can do it in 3-4 hours if moving at good pace). Includes river crossing- Bloukraans river crossing. Day 5 = 10,8km
Overall a heaven on earth space. The coastal line hugs you from day 1 to last day. You will have moments were you ask : why am I doing this ? What’s wrong with me?. Then the great views , huts soon wipe those silly thoughts away. In times of COVId-19 its a safe haven and you forget for few days.
You get to hang out with Otters, snakes ( we saw a boomslang green snake and a puff adder), Leopards, dolphins, whales and great bird diversity and amazing bio and eco diversity.
When you read Beyond Good and Evil, Nietzsche talks about nature and life. He argues that one should better “live according to life not according to nature” , for life is preserving , valuating, preferring, choosing being unjust, without regret and thoughtful, but nature is prodigal beyond measure, indifferent, without aims or intentions, unintentional, without mercy or justice, unjust, fruitful yet barren. When you hike such spaces you soon realize ghat it’s not either/or but rather and/and. It’s Life and Nature. Both dancing, wrestling and rumbling with such great psychic and mystic powers.
Mobile Phone network is intermittent if you have Vodacom SIM card. But ideally You want to switch off your smart devices and let Organic intelligence take over and use all Your senses to take in what we were gifted but never created. It will be well being and self Care at its apex.
You will have new unpolluted thoughts and you might just come out loving Yourself more and believing in Faith, Free will And Action.
I believe that “he who does not find greatness in God, finds it nowhere”. Since I am with God and God is not dead, I can testify that while hiking the Otter trail , God greatness is also in its...

My visit to Tsitsikamma National Park was nothing short of breathtaking. Nestled along South Africa’s scenic Garden Route, this natural haven is a perfect blend of rugged beauty, tranquil forests, and adrenaline-pumping activities.
The moment you arrive, you're greeted by the sound of crashing waves against jagged cliffs, a sight that immediately immerses you in the park’s raw beauty. The iconic Storms River Mouth is a must-see, with its dramatic suspension bridges offering stunning views of the river meeting the ocean.
Walking across the bridge was thrilling, although the path leading there can be a bit tiring, especially in the heat. Some routes include steps, so be prepared if you have knee issues or other mobility concerns.
Wearing light, breathable clothing and bringing plenty of water is essential to stay comfortable and hydrated—it’s worth the effort!
For nature lovers, the park offers an array of hiking trails, ranging from short walks to multi-day treks. I explored the Waterfall Trail, which was both challenging and rewarding, leading to a secluded cascade where you can cool off with a dip in the crystal-clear pool. The forested paths, filled with ancient trees and chirping birds, made the journey magical.
Adventurers will love the activities on offer. From kayaking through the Storms River Gorge to snorkelling in the marine-protected waters, there’s something for everyone. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, the seaside chalets provide a front-row seat to incredible sunrises and sunsets, with the soothing sound of the ocean as your backdrop.
The facilities were well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to share insights about the park’s rich biodiversity.
Tsitsikamma National Park is more than just a destination—it’s an experience that leaves you feeling connected to nature and rejuvenated. Whether you’re seeking adventure, serenity, or simply a break from the everyday hustle, this park should be at the top of your...
Read moreA Must-Visit Gem on the Garden Route – Tsitsikamma National Park
Tsitsikamma National Park is a breathtaking natural treasure that offers a perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and spectacular coastal scenery. The famous suspension bridges are simply iconic – spanning the mouth of the Storms River with dramatic ocean views all around.
One of the highlights is the hike to the waterfalls, which takes about 2–3 hours round trip and rewards you with lush forest paths, rocky coastline, and the sound of crashing waves. The shorter hike (about 1–1.5 hours) to the bridges is also well worth it – especially for the stunning views and photo opportunities.
For the more adventurous, kayaking up the Storms River all the way to the ocean is an unforgettable experience. Paddling through narrow gorges surrounded by towering cliffs is both peaceful and exhilarating.
Day visitors are welcome, but if you have time, staying overnight in one of their rustic bungalows adds a magical dimension – waking up to the sound of the ocean just meters away is something special.
Although the main restaurant is under construction, don’t miss the temporary one – their burgers are surprisingly delicious and a great way to refuel after your hike or paddle.
Highly recommended for nature lovers, hikers, and anyone wanting to experience the wild beauty of South...
