Spectacular walks and views. 12km per day on average x5 days.
Parking at trailhead: There is secure parking 7km down the road at Sani Lodge and Backpackers. R50/car/night. They gave us a 50% discount for multiple vehicles and nights.
Nights 1 and 4 have electricity and hot showers (except Day 1 did not have electricity or hot water when we visited due to snow-related outages and a problem with the flame for gas, Sep 2024). Cold showers at nights 2&3.
Nights 1 to 4 have water, flush toilets except on night 3 the jojo tank ran out soon after arrival. Needs to be refilled by the manager who resides at night 4.
Night 2: The mattresses in this hut have long disappeared due to the isolated location. The place is seldom cleaned but there is a broom available. Expect to have to clean the counter when you arrive and sweep the bedrooms. Rubbish is not regularly removed. Bring black bags as the bin was overflowing. Also, mice have access to the bedrooms, so we hung our bags from rafters and didn’t leave food lying around. But they were adorable outdoors.
I believe the hut at night 5 may have been burned down in the fire at Bushman’s Nek of 2024, so we just did 4 nights.
