I was disgusted and appalled to have paid R275 for the food at an event hosted here and catered for by Protea farm, where the "3 course meal" started with vetkoek, MARGERINE, and jam. Then offered a variety of some of the toughest, dryest potjies I've had in some time, followed by a lumpy "baked chocolate dessert" gloop that tasted blegh and had the consistency of lumpy gravy stuck to the bottom of a pot. I've had a lot of really wonderful boerekos in my life and this was not it. If it had been my event I would have hit the roof. To top this off the young girls tasked with clearing up with plates where constantly appearing holding big round buckets asking to clear away dishes while most people at the table were absolutely still busy eating. Or to try to cart off glasses when there was still a whole evening ahead. Don't ask me to take my plate when my fork is half way to my mouth, use your eyes, I'm still eating. Ugh. Worst. The only redeeming feature of the whole place was the beautiful swings which were enjoyed by adults and...
Read moreThe tractor ride was stunning on a beautiful day. I booked a month in advance for the whole package as so royally advertised, that is the potjie meal included which is part of the experience and a major drawcard. We received a phone call the day before that the potjies have been cancelled due to insufficient bookings. This is a great disappointment and one feels a bit ripped off having travelled far to the farm and set aside a full day. 14 people had booked for the potjie. There is no indication of what a 'sufficient' amount of people is or any kind of surety that your meal booking will be honoured. I can understand 4 bookings could be difficult, but 14? I feel this is bad planning and bad business sense. Ons gets the feeling that they are doing you a great favour if you do get served with food... and they don't really need the business unless the cash-in fills the coffers...
Read moreWent on the ride with 13 primary kids. We've done this trip many times when camping in the area. This group also really enjoyed it. We all loved the fruit sweets and juice at the halfway stop...and the fresh plums from the Koo Valley provided at the first stop. The kids loved exploring in and about the hiker's hut at this stop. They also loved swimming in the dam (got special permission) after the ride. Happy to see that the many young intruder trees (Black Wattle, Port Jacksons, etc) I saw on the previous trip close to the end of the trip have disappeared and now I only saw indigenous fynbos again. Will definitely come again. Just miss camping in the dormitory that is only open to private or church groups and not anymore to schools for quite...
