B'sorah Trails 10km near Hartebeespoort Dam - My new favorite forest! Absolutely amazing to have several kilometers of hiking in mostly indigenous forest, with the river below you.

At this place, the butterflies and dragonflies fly in front of you along the path outside the forest. It's like having little winged companions 😍 At least 5 kinds of butterfly and two kinds of dragonfly.

First half of the 10km was Magalies "bushveld" - dry and little shade. Glad I was there on a 19C day.

Almost the entire second half in indigenous forest, most of it next to either the Skeerpoort river below you, or a "lei voor" channel that takes water to the farm house I guess.

The forest sections are much easier on a dry day.... its all clay and lots of leaves - slippery when raining or after major rain. And from the start of the lei voor, there are plenty small clay mud bogs that are easy enough to navigate on a dry day with a hiking / wading staff.

Incredibly well marked... and that's good because one could get utterly lost in that forest maze otherwise. The last 3km after the picnic and braai kraal is tricky with several small tree bridges, short sharp uphill and some very sharp turns on very faint forest paths.

The 10km with lots of photos and a good late lunch stop at the river "picnic" spot took me 4 hours.... just such a gorgeous place to unplug reset...

We have been looking forward to B'sorah Trails (near Broederstroom) for a long time and it did not disappoint. It is evident that the owners take pride in their trails. The trails and water were remarkably clean. The trails were well marked and the helpful lady at reception even provided us with a map. Such a beautiful and scenic hike. We did the 7km which was spectacular as the majority of the hike was spent in lush green vegetation and surrounded by the soothing sound of water. Nyala, Kudu and Vlakvark sightings are common but unfortunately we missed the game this time round which provides me with a great excuse to go back...we also plan on a getaway in their luxury tents. I would describe this 7km trail as moderate, there are many obstacles such as a tree bridge, logs to climb over etc to create interest and challenge you. Many other trail options for all levels of experience from 2.5km to 18km. R70 per person is money well spent for a clean and secure hike. Dogs are welcome on the leash. Please make sure your four legged friends are up to date with their Bravecto before doing this trail to assist with ticks. Also note the trails are not open for day visitors on Saturdays. My photos really don't do the trail justice...definately one of the best pet friendly trails...

Another stunning Sunday morning hike. This time to 10km circuit at B'sorah Trails. You have the option of 5km, 10km, 12km or 18km route. The awesome thing about this hike is that most of the 10km route we took was in partly or full shade with the great option of a swim on all the routes, except the 5km. We could not resist the swim option in the crystal clear river which was very deep in some sections. As we approached the swiming point, there was movement in the undergrowth and an otter escaped into the river not 5m away from us. But that didn't interfere with a well deserved swim. Absolutely refreshing so take a towel and something to swim in if you can't resist the water. There is a great picnic spot along the way and there were a couple of dogs as well. The last part of the hike is through forest with quite a variety of indigenous trees of all sizes. You can purchase a picnic basket if you don't want to pack your own but there are plenty great places in the vicinity to have breakfast or brunch depending on what time you set off but we'd recommend an early start. There is also a Mtb trail so great for the family...

I went there on a Sunday to run the 18km route and it was spectacular! The route is very well marked and maintained and the view points are magnificent- don’t miss them if you are running. It was over 600m climbing over the 18 km, but it really didn’t feel like a lot. You go through bush, forest sections and savanna. The river section with the opportunity to swim (do it) makes the end of the run really special. The forest loop is also something, weaving through the trees, coming just after the Barkley Marathons had finished, I felt like I could be in Tennessee and actually had an out of body experience then. There were two detractors that gave B’sorah an 8/10. The cappuccino afterwards in a polystyrene cup was awful, a shame because the toasted sandwich was delicious. Get a barista, decent coffee and proper cups. Also, while relaxing a group of guys arrived talking about camping overnight. My mate has also camped there before with his friends. We ran past a campsite, yet when I enquired, I was told that they don’t offer camping.

This is truly a wonderful hike. Great scenery and varied terrain. We enjoyed it so much the first time we decided to do it again a few weeks later. This is where star number 5 fell off. For some reason there was a large number of vehicles coming from somewhere other than the parking lot and the first part of the hike was spent getting out of their way. Eventually we left the vehicles behind only to be met by an almighty racket. There seemed to be a function in the middle of the area which included either a bad dj or terrible karaoke,, nevertheless we were follow by a cacophony of noise for nearly half of our hike. While we understand that money must be made it was rather unpleasant and counter to why we hike in the country. That being said, once silence returned and vehicles were behind us we remembered why Bsorah is one of our favourite walks. I can't wait for summer and loads of fresh greenery.
