Stay away from this gate. A German tourist was murdered on the road leading to the gate on October 3rd, 2022. See below:
On 3 October, four German nationals were attacked by three armed robbers in the Numbi area (Mpumalanga province) while traveling to a safari lodge. According to police reports, the attack occurred in a rural area at around 16.30 (local time). One of the victims was shot dead and the attackers fled without stealing anything. The police have opened an investigation. The incident highlights the persistent risk posed by high rates of violent crime in South Africa. Exercise heightened vigilance in rural and urban locations, as no area can be considered immune to crime.
According to police reports, the attackers reportedly stopped the vehicle and ordered the German nationals to open the doors. The driver resisted and was shot dead.
Previous robberies have been reported in the same area. According to the National Parks department, the Numbi Gate road which leads to Kruger National Park, is a hotspot for crime. In January, a family driving along the road was reportedly attacked by armed assailants while leaving a game reserve. The attackers shot at the victims and attempted to steal the vehicle. Although most crime is reported in low-income high-density areas in urban settings, these incidents highlight that crime is a prevalent risk even in...

I laughed! Those safari drivers can...
Read moreI celebrated my birthday over the weekend and we had a day trip to the Kruger National park.
From checking in at Numbi gat, the staff was super friendly and polite, eager to assist where needed. They were cracking jokes and truly making the experience of checking in and making payments interactive, friendly and vibey in the early hours of the morning before the sun was up.
They didn't focus just on getting the job done but made everyone involved feel part of the process. We purchased our tickets in advance online and that made the process faster as well. Although I had a user error and still had to pay conservation fees at the gate. I did so with a smile. They gave us our permits and sent...
