Today was my first visit to the Skukuza Golf Club restaurant since last November. It saddens me to say that while I have been raving about the Club to my friends over the past 5 months, the restaurant today is barely a shadow of what it was a management change ago.
Why change the wonderfully thoughtful and varied cullinary creations previously offered on the "old" menu to one that now basically caters primarily to the "Jeep Jockey" clientelle (easy, fast and cheap).
My wife and I were expecting to celebrate a special occasion at SGC based on our past experience, only to be very disappointed.
My thanks to the SGC restaurant supervisory staff that took the time to listen to our issues and helped us to understand the reason for this change. Lets hope that the new Management has the courage to return to the previous successful recipe, with maybe a simpler/faster solution for the jeep jockey clients.
Update: Following Management's response, I have reduced my rating from 2 to 1star If Management's aim is to concentrate on the fast food market, I would recommend then at least do it properly. Firstly, there was a distinct lack of service personnel for the large number of guests they had the whole day, being Good Friday. My Philly Steak was well done instead of medium. My wife's grilled fish looked like it had been simply taken out of the freezer and chucked on a pan for a few minutes. It also tasted like that. The dark brown chips we got had been fried in old oil. We actually would have preferred the veggies of the day, but when informed that these would not be fresh but instead came out of a bag of frozen mixed veggies, we passed on that. Side salad limited to greens only .... we passed on that as well. The beers were not at all cold, probably also due to the large number of clients. We were probably the last clients that ordered anything to eat. Maybe the staff were in a hurry to go home?
Long story short. We will still be taking our drinks after our round of golf, but will be eating out at the...

The layout is challenging, with some tough holes. Plus, seeing wildlife on the drive to the course makes it even more unique.
The hospitality is top-notch. Our waitress was warm and attentive, and the staff overall were friendly and helpful. We had breakfast and lunch on the deck, and the food and coffee were fantasticâa perfect spot to relax and take in the view.
As for the course itself, while the recent hollow tining on the greens was expected, I had hoped for better fairway and rough conditions for the price. It could use a bit more care, but that didnât take away from the overall experience. Highly recommend booking ahead and aiming for the last morning tee time to make the most of your journey through the park (keep in mind the 40km/h limit).
Overall, itâs a must-do for any golfer, a truly memorable experience that Iâd recommend...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews but this isnât the first time we are experiencing this. This place could be a gold mine but the service is so terribly poor that they donât deserve to be busy. If they were in the âreal worldâ competing with lots of other restaurants then they wouldnât survive 6 months! Service (or lack there of) is so slow, even the manager is disinterested. We wanted to sit inside but couldnât find a table that wasnât dirty or that needed a good wipe down. My burger was so well done that I struggled to cut through it. My daughterâs chicken strips were like rubber. The chicken schnitzel was so salty that it was nearly unbearable to eat. The monkeys make eating there so unpleasant too, constantly looking over your shoulder to check if theyâre coming, they even stole the sugar pot off the tables. Makes me sad that this place could do so well if they focused on customer service...
