We enjoyed our visit to the park. However, with many of the enclosures, the signs did not match the animals that were in the enclosures. So you're expecting a leopard to find rabbits, or expecting a fox to find jackals and so on. I would advise management to move the signs when moving the animals. What could also be cool is maybe having ropes attached to some toys in the tigers cages. Especially the cubs. They really want to play. So if you have a toy in there that people can maybe interact with them by pulling on ropes from a safe distance, it could provide a lot of entertainment for both the tigers and the visitors. We used our pamflet to play with a tiger cub, we could see they are a bit bored and curious to interact with anything moving.
There are many, many different animals and plenty of tigers.
If you are truly a nature lover, know that this is much more of a zoo experience than you'd think. I wouldn't recommend it to avid game drivers, hikers, photographers, hunters or people who spend a lot of time in the bush. It's a nice place to show kids lots of animals, but being a nature lover and photographer myself, I find it difficult to see birds in cages and animals in enclosures. Not only does it make the photos difficult to take, but some of the enclosures are too full or too small and I'd recommend more regular cleaning of the water and baths in the enclosures. I understand that rehabilitation takes place here and I'm a supporter of such activities, but I much preferred watching the birds fly over the wetland than walking through the enclosures, but many other guests enjoyed the enclosures thoroughly.
So, in closing, for the right audience, this is a great trip. Kids will love this place and most adults too. Just know you're visiting a zoo and not doing a game drive and prepare yourself for the differences...
Read moreThe perception of the place supercedes reality. The staff know what's going on and that made the beginning exciting. I cannot say if the claim of over 1000 species is true but there were MANY to see. After a while it became apparent that the way the place is designed and laid out is very pragmatic, almost rushed as new animals and cages were added to the property. Yet, many cages were empty. It has advantages but I feel for the animals as it's almost inevitable that the cages are cramped and poorly designed. The smell of urine gives it away and I'm wondering why there are so many lions and tigers when the place does not identify itself as sanctuary instead of an animal park. Some enclosures were large and others I felt were too small. Of course, most animals didn't look unhealthy and I was grateful for that.
What is interesting is that in the restaurant, no smoking signs are everywhere and some people were smoking in front of the bar. There is no enclosure to separate the smoking zone from the rest of the seats and chairs. When asking the waitress she said that it was 'their' table and they could. This is both inconsiderate and illegal.
So if you want to see a lot of lions and tigers that I assume are being rehabilitated as well as a many other species this is a great place to visit. The way it's built and designed is just slaptisck and probably does not justify...
Read moreI left this place feeling sad and very embarrassed, as I was accompanied by a group of American clients. The big cats are all fat and lethargic. The honey badger went around and around his small enclosure. The fish eagles are in an enclosure approximately 6mx8m big and have no access to open water. It was heartbreaking to hear their beautiful call from within their enclosure. A great many of the enclosures did not have any name boards or had the incorrect name board. The bear, identified as an American black bear, is actually an Asian black bear. Many of the animals and birds are not African animals/birds and consequently cannot be rehabilitated, but will spend the rest of their lives in their miserable enclosures. If you visit Eventierra's website, the entrance fee is to be found, after scrolling through the entire site, in very small print, at R145 per person. We were charged R150 per person, the same amount for children and adults. The only positive thing I can say about the place, is that the...
