Very nice family outing. The tour included about 1.5 km to 2.0 km guided tour through the preserves hidden forest which took about 1 hrs 30 mins. The Tour was a very easy walk, but was a little too long for my 4 year old who need to be carried the last bit of the walk. The hidden forest is in excellent condition, our guide was very professional and insightful, and we ended up seeing all but 1 of the 8 exotic species of monkeys. The main building / vistor centre is very neat and clean and has a basic outdoor restuarant with a light breakfast/lunch menu and a kiddies play area.
The only reason why I didn't give it five stars was because of the price. At R300 per adult and R150 per child it works out to be R900 for a family for 4, which is alot of money for essentially 2 hours of entertainment. But that said, game walks can be a little pricey becuase of the labour costs involved, so I did not feel ripped off. We were also staying at the First Group La Montagne resort in ballito, and as guest of the resort, their Leisure office was able to give us 10% off discount coupons.
All in all, this was a great family experience, and this preserve is a great addition to the KZN...
Read moreAbsolutely worth a visit. We took some Russian friends and they were really impressed. Our initial telephonic contact with Paula was very informative and helpful. During the visit, the staff were quite amazing- from the reception staff to "Nylon" the driver and including our guide through the actual forest.
The guide was very well spoken and knowledgeable, not only about the different monkey species, but also about the flora, other fauna and the different bird species. She has also clearly worked with a translator before, because she was sure not to just rattle off, but gave my wife the opportunity to translate in between sentences.
An important aspect of Monkeyland is that they do really excellent work with regard to the rehabilitation of these animals - some of who have clearly come a long way in the process. For that reason alone, they are worth supporting, not to mention the very interesting educational info we got.
Highly...
Read moreA definite destination to visit when visiting or holidaying in around Ballito, it is a rehabilitation centre so they are exploiting the animals, they do not breed and only keep rescue monkeys. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable and all the animals very funny, with one monkey joining our group the whole tour as if he was just another one of us. We were also lucky to catch all the monkeys interacting as it was feeding time when we arrived so I can recommend you visit during the 2pm tour. It seems there is a tour on the hour every hour. While it’s open. The main centre does serve food and have a restaurant type setup we didn’t get to eat there so I can’t critique the food or say if it’s vegan friendly so I would love to hear from anyone else about this. Otherwise I highly recommend this as a fun experience and support of a...
