Sardinia Bay Beach — Attraction in Nelson Mandela Bay Ward 1

By far one of the best beaches in PE. Parking is a bit of an issue due to the sandune that has taken over the main access point to the parking area. There is a very steep climb up the dune to get to the beach but this is part of the fun and offers stunning views. Lots of families and people having picnics. I felt safe. Plenty people walking with their dogs (most on leads) and lots of dog pooh - be careful where you walk directly in front of the dune on the sea side. The sea is wild and very beautiful but watch out for rip currents. You cannot let your children swim there unless you watch them 100%. There is no safety board alerting people to the rips and explaining what to do if you are caught in a rip. Or at least no board that I saw. No toilet facilities (they are long buried under the encroaching dune). There is food and cooldrinks available from the Wurstwagen - he is a local who has been feeding Sards beachgoers for about 30 years. There is an icecream lady who sells scoops at a very reasonable price. If you go at low tide there is a beautiful rocky area to the right as you face the sea - and this is a great area for snorkeling. I really enjoyed the walk along this shoreline, fairly clean beaches, and we felt reasonably safe. Would have liked to have seen a more visible life guard on duty. I must however add, it is a leashed dog friendly beach, but, I feel that many visitors are extremely lazy and should learn to pick up their dogs messes. It's just simple etiquette, so do the rest of us a favor and show some respect for other visitors. The "Hot Dog" mobile kitchen is a great place to buy something to eat or drink, and I feel that the owner really does deserve as much patronage and support...
