I'll try to brief, but so much to write. Recommend to read all, as I would have benefited for such a review.
We visited Mjejane February 2020.
Depending what you are looking for, this might be the best choice in the world, or the wrong option.
There are a few private game reserves attached to Kruger which means that animals can roam free between Kruger and the private reserve. Mjejane is one of those. Due to this we saw big a huge amount of animals (Lions, buffalos, rhinos, impalas, zeebras, elephants etc) just by driving from the gate to the lodge. We also saw huge variate from the pool of the lodge (hippos, giraffes, elephants, birds etc). Some of the pics are from the lodge.
You can't drive in the park by yourself but from Mjejane bush camp / share block you can book very reasonable priced (around 80€ for 2 adults, 2 kids) game drives for morning and afternoon. Rangers and very skilled and knowledgeable. Between the drives you can go back to the lodge to enjoy the day. We were four nights in Mjejane and booked in total three drives - they were wonderful and highly recommended. Majority of my pictures are taken from the drives.
Mjejane is still developing and divided to two areas: more build northern area (you can walk in the area) and still sparsely build west side (just a few lodges). We had a private lodge (Jacana, booked from the private web site) in the west side - very very highly recommend. Closest lodges were hundreds meters away. You could go skinny dipping any time of the day. Only thigh you see and hear is bush and animals but at the same time you can enjoy private lodge facilities that match any villa in the world.
Private lodges also offer private game drives with a little bit higher pricing. But then you can be on our own and you don't have to share the drive.
Closest stores are in Komatipoort or Malelane (around 40min). We visited Komantipoort that also had very good butcher / meat store.
So - if you are looking for a full cater experience where you really live in (very nice) tents but with other people - this most likely is not the option for you. But if you would like to have world class villas in the middle of the African bush just for you - look no further. Just book.
I also do recommend a half day game drive to Kruger as the park is vast and still gives more options for animals. Drive to Crocodile bridge was around 45min. We chose to use Chasin' Africa and do recommend them. But don't be fooled, for many Mjajane could serve the only option for game drives. And between the drives real african bush with world class...
Read moreSpent 5 nights in #33 with friends. Great experience, the chalet was super nice and very reasonably priced. The game drives with Rodney were fun and informative, and he really went out of his way to get the most out of the trips even if it meant going over time and causing hassle for himself. Mjejane is conveniently located to two gates for Kruger and coming and going is a breeze.
I saw some complaints about the speed cameras in the reviews, yeah the fines are a bit draconian but they could not do more to warn you not to speed, it’s in every piece of communication, the guards at the gate warn you, there are signs everywhere. Not an issue.
Most importantly, the service really sets this place apart. From the girls at reception to the rangers to the house cleaners, everyone went out of their way to be kind and accommodating. Thank you Dawn, Aggieu (Ik I spelled that wrong sorry), and Immaculate (strongest hands in ZA) at reception, Rodney again for the game drives, Lucky for keeping the pool and brai spotless, and our cleaning lady whose name I unfortunately missed but she did a great job. I wish you all success, and I hope to return to...
Read morePlease if possible don't consider Sihlangu but rather Kwemukela. Also 40% cheaper. Kwemukela is absolutely amazing place to stay. Terribel experience at Sihlangu. Diahwasher broken, leave you with two dish tablet for the weekend for 10 people, deduct funds from deposit without notifying you for what it was. One braai thong for 10 people. Unorganised kitchen. Wet sponges (not clean) for dishes, Dishwasher stink and we had to clean the dung ourselves. At the end it did not want to drain the water and had to wash dishes ourself. No recycling options, you must use the woodbreadbaoard for hot pots not to damage the table. We had to do all 10 peoples dishes manually. No cleaning for Sundays and public holidays. Game driver, communicate almost nothing no interest in us. We saw basically nothing (yes I know it depends on the animals movement) driver was more interested in selling his own wood to us. (not sure if game drives are allocates to the houses?) Ask for Leboko, he is an amazing game driver from Kwemukela. If I can help guest please rahter book at Kwemukela that is 40% cheaper with...
