We live two minutes away from Silversands Beach. Its most striking features are the dunes. They stretch about 400 metres away from the beach and slowly climb to what I guess would be about 12–15 metres at the ridge. There have never been two days that were the same. Every day offers something different and new. At high tide and messy winds, it may appear uninviting. Yet, it will always have an aura of drama about it. On calm days, at low tide, it is the most pristine, soul-nurturing place around here. After a windy day, if we are early enough, there are those highly aesthetic patterns all over the landscape, still untouched by humans and animals. A photographer's dream. Compared to the other beaches in the area, it appears wild and remote despite the suburb that has developed behind the dunes. There are days, especially during the week, when we don't meet a single soul. However, it is an animal paradise. If one is lucky, otter, baboon, black oyster catcher, seal and a considerable number of other animals can be seen. And if one is particularly lucky, there might be an occasional whale spouting or a hunting penguin. This one is for fishermen and nature lovers in particular. There is no place quite like it. It's a privilege to live here, despite the windy days and the occasional storm.

It's a stark and empty beach that is somewhat hidden from view (though you can certainly hear the waves). The short walk is rewarded with a wonderful open seaside and very soft sand. In fact, it's quite a workout walking along the beach, but you don't really feel the time because the views are very good. The rocks give great contrast to the environment but it is also an indicator that you should exercise great caution if you intend to swim here. LOcals are pretty friendly out here and are keen to assist. No lifeguards on duty and the tide comes up higher than you would think.

Once the winds blow you into Betty's Bay you get stucked into.. The beauty of nature, here you truly feel rejuvenated, relaxed and you understand and remember why it's a blessing just to be alive and breathe in the ocean air. The beach just goes on forever and so will your memories of this neverending coastline. The locals fishermen stand on the beach and pull out 'the big ones'. Animals are welcome children have a blast especially on the sand dunes. There is a lagoon. Small little hidden beaches all around, clean facilities and you might even find a rare shell or two.
