As roadside places go, this place is beautifully built and has a lot of potential. It has a little shop that sells some interesting items and the accommodation looks quite lovely. There are also two white lions and a little lake with a bridge area, play area for kids etc. We stopped in at the restaurant for brunch and, between us, had croissants, apple pie, hot chocolate and cappuccinos. It’s a lovely venue with many seating options. The service was friendly but slow, they forgot some of our order and the croissants were served cold. There was some confusion about the billing as part of our order came from another part of the restaurant. I am most grateful to Erika, the Manager, for going to great lengths to investigate the issue and to clear up the misunderstanding following my initial review (now amended). Great job for following up on this - that’s excellent customer service! We hope to visit again soon 😊

Lovely restaurant on the N3, great stop on the way to coast and back. Playgrounds, little souvenir shop, bakery, all lovely. It would be even nicer if the management could chill a little and friendly welcome guests instead of treating them as unwelcome intruders who use "the wrong way" into the the restaurant (came via coffeeshop, nothing indicates where one MUST go to do it RIGHT). Also buying biltong one shouldn't be scolded for queuing at the "wrong" counter. Seems a bit OCD. A more professional way would be for the waitress to point out immediately what dishes on the menu are not available so that one doesn't have to call the kids back from playground to pick something else. So I say awesome pretty clean facility, could be a bit more into service and friendliness instead of looking like "I am too busy for you right now" nerved looking manager.

Heading for the Berg over the September Heritage long weekend and needing a stop I thought we could avoid the crowds by stopping here, having stopped before to have a look. It was busy but not unusually so, so sat down and ordered breakfast. Seeing some plates come out it certainly looked good. Well, it took 50 minutes before we received ours. My Farm breakfast was well priced and a good hearty meal, but my wife's Eggs Benedict was nothing like it should be - swimming in source and tasted more like a porridge - a real disappointment. Their coffees are good, the decor is way better than you would find elsewhere on the N3, and the kiddies play areas are worth a stop. Their shop area has something for everyone, and the Brewery too. Caged lions etc not my scene. I will give them one more shot at breakfast (with penalties if they take so long).

Arrived for a quiet weekend expecting rooms to be of a high standard, what a disappointment arrived to be greeted by a pleasant receptionist willing to help, then we went to our chalet, sadly the garden was unkept, entered the room not bad turned the fridge on warm air started coming out oh well we'll give it some time to cool down another mistake, tried to open the safe no can do, tried the Wi-Fi not working, ok back to reception, receptionist had knocked off and found another young lady who was quick to tell me that she normally worked in the admin department and made me feel like she was doing me a favour, fridge problem sorry sir not much I can do about that, safe - please pay a deposit and I'll give you a key to use (why can't you just give me the code - blank expression), Wi-Fi sorry sir we're having a problem here's a voucher for 1gig ok thanks what must I do with it - another blank expression. By this time we'd been there only a hour and still had another nearly 2 days of our stay to spend here, off to the restaurant, this was the only saving grace staff were super efficient and friendly and always made us feel welcome. Time for bed - ok turn the fan on, oops no fan no ventilation can't sleep with a window open as the mosquitoes will carry us away or eat us to death so that meant 2 nights of hell trying to sleep, wake up after a minimal amount of sleep to have a shower (I should have taken my scuba equipment) the drain was either blocked or the drainage system non-existent oh well better let reception know there's a problem - another mistake as the expression was -What would you like me to do about it. Time to end this novel with the following - Location is great, Restaurant has friendly staff who in my opinion do their best, Accommodation - not worthy of 1 star, Would I recommend...

You can't fault the shop, restaurant, play area and immaculate accommodation. Walking through, you can't help but appreciate the effort, money and thought that has gone into this 'gem'. So misleading for what comes next! A walk through the next gate and you can't believe how the same owner is responsible for the conditions of these animals. We literally walked through rubbish, litter!! We couldn't believe it. We didn't see all the animals... it's appalling! Not a tree in sight. Each 'pen' was exactly the same. Grass, wooden structure and the animals! Each animal called to as if being fed so they would react. Disgusting that these beautiful beasts be kept like this. To finish this awful experience, we are walked through the accommodation and train tracks for fun kiddies rides and all the amazing facilities for guests with money. This further pushing the very clear point that these animals are here simply for money sake. The burning question is how this is acceptable. I wasn't able to talk to the owner himself because he was in his 'big house' but I would literally love to see a day, pay 10x the rate to see him in any one of these enclosures in 30 degree heat! Shame on you for allowing this when clearly you have the funds and resources to do better!! WHY are you not...
