It was our first day on our South Africa trip in February and we were very happy to visit de Toren. As we had already planned and booked it in advance, our wine tasting appointment was already paid for. The reception staff insisted that they had not received the money yet, even though we could show them the bank receipt, we had to pay cash on the spot. We arrived just after 4 (they say they close at 5) and were told by an unmasked, unenthused employee that their entirely empty tasting room was fully booked. Indeed, the three cars in their parking lot spoke to just how overwhelmed they must have been. We were told to make a booking, despite their website saying we don't need to make a booking.
