This was one of the days where I was supposed to be super happy as my husband booked this as a suprise picnic for my birthday which was yesterday, but turned out extremely disappointing. My birthday was yesterday (17 Mach 2024) and my lovely husband thought it best to surprise me as he always does as a sweet gesture but I must say this was the worst places he has taken me to. To our arrival we met the gate man and he was super sweet and extra informed us with directions which was helpful but as we reach we got the the door and waited at the door with no assistance. One waitress lady with full hands after helping the tables tried to help us while a whole manager (Robin) was having a full conversation on her phone letting us wait at the door for at least 5 to 7 minutes or so, we obviously had to tell her we will wait.

We waited ....the manager continued with who ever was so important on the phone then us as "paying guests" and only when she was done talking and texting decided to help us with payment. I thought " oh finally" but after we paid she couldn't even take us to a more clear view for us to see where we going and just pointed from behind the desk where we needed to go almost like we should know where we going. My husband had to ask her to please show us clearly and only then she moved to the door not even clear ground showed for that matter.

Well let me shock you more to us getting there and one of the food boxes in the basket which had this two meatballs looked like it was an overnight snack and dry chicken with an orange looking coleslaw that mayo shouldn't look like if your salad is fresh, I immediately turned it back and Ntando the waiter helped us with such care and speed and made the rest of our stay so smooth.

Thank you to the lady ( I didn't get her name) who helped us as well when my husband got stung.

Ntando and the lady should have been front of house to keep guests happy not that manager who though and WhatsApp voice note is more important than guests

I really am extremely disappointed and this made my experience horrible.

Some guests that came after us as we walked down the stairs got the same treatment as us and I don't understand how this manager is still dealing with guests like that. Worst of this all , we made a reservation so the food should have been fresh and service should always be friendly and professional.

I request to be contacted to give all this details because for such a beautiful place, people need to be...

We had a great hike here and enjoyed ourselves so much. The only downfall we had was when my mother fell and hurt her shin real bad so we had to rush her to the reception house thinking there would be a first aid kit but to our surprise the employees looked at us in awe saying that they don’t have one. This is really bad thinking if someone would be to hurt themselves really badly they would not be equipped to assist in any matter. Also it would be a good thing to look at the maintenance of the hiking trails. For some reason where there is a pole to form a solid step, there are these metal pens supporting the step, but it stands out and are not covered, so she slipped over it with her tekkie. It would be a safe suggestion to cover these pens with rubber or something. We were far from the car and used a scarve to wrap around her leg. We were fortunate to reach a dr...

I recently hiked the Breakfast Rock Trail in Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve, Franschhoek, and it was an amazing experience. The trail offers stunning views and fresh air that make every step worthwhile. The paths are well-marked, making navigation easy even for first-time visitors.

Permits are reasonably priced at R70 for those aged 12 and older and can be purchased at the gate. The trail was bustling with hikers and trail runners, creating a lively atmosphere. However, be prepared to be moderately fit to tackle the mountain. 🏞️

There are various trails to choose from, but we opted for the 2.5 km route. Despite its moderate length, the trail provided a good workout and spectacular scenery. Overall, Breakfast Rock Trail is definitely worth a visit for anyone looking to enjoy nature and...

I am not a pro hiker, but I try to hike once in a while. Me and my friends came across Mont Rochelle when searching for a beautiful but safe place to hike as we are only girls together. I loved every moment of hiking in this BEAUTIFUL place. I felt safe the whole time, and other hikers were so friendly. We even stopped a few times to have a chat with other hikers. They have different hiking trials depending on your fitness or how often you hike. We took the easiest one, which was still a challenge. There was also a tour group with a guide, so it seems like you can book guided hike tours as well. I am definitely going back to try the other trials, and I do recommend Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve for an incredible hiking experience with perfect views. 😁

Hiking at Mont Rochelle was spectacular. In my opinion the best route is to Uitkyk via Du Toitskop. This is a 9.5 km circular route. The view from Du Toitskop cannot be compared with that from Uitkyk, it is simply breathtaking! The circuit can be completed within 3 to 3.5 hours depending on your fitness. The first half up to Du Toitskop is all uphill and can be a bit strenuous, but thereafter all is downhill and relatively easy. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, take along drinking water and some snacks to replenish your enery at the peak. Remember to put on sufficient sunscreen, with the cold wind, you might not realise sunburn until you have returned. Well worth the R50 p/p entry fee.
