Ok so first of all... my wife (Jackie) and i are by no means wine connoisseurs or spend time on ratings online. In fact... i also own a small business and the biggest challenge is to convince the 20% of clients to give me a rating. Almost all clients are super happy with my service but life gets in the way of all unnecessary admin. But this one i thought was well worth it. Ill try to make it short. We visited some wine tastings in the area but we wanted to do Neil Ellis because the wines are exceptional. As pointed out.. Mr Ellis and also his son did some amazing wine making over the years and saying that its an understatement. Our wine tasting host namely Philip even arranged for us to briefly meet him. A bit overwelming coming from little Humansdorp. What do you say to a man who has done so much for SA winemaking? Surely he has heard it all, got all the questions and heard all the compliments? So after quite a few... tastings i thought it best to point out and do what we need in SA most... Credits to Phillip! ... our hands down best wine tasting host ever! Thank you Philip for hosting us even though the venue had a event to do and everybody was super busy. As a small businessman myself, i recognised total commitment and intimate knowledge of the brand, not even stuttering one moment on giving all the facts and boasting the owner and brand. Full marks for Philip for being such an ambassador for the Neil Ellis brand and we were super happy with...

I think many of us are born into a world that, from the start, seems to give little meaning to our existence. So we start building — ourselves, our names, our place in the world. We try to anchor our worth in things outside of ourselves: achievements, awards, success, status.
And yes, sometimes we manage it. We “make it” in life. But deep inside, there’s still that quiet little voice: Who am I really? And what makes me truly worth something?
Someone once said, “The great challenge of today’s youth is the sense of inadequacy they carry — ‘Who am I, and what am I?’” But if I’m honest, I think that question stays with you. It just changes shape as you grow older.
One of my own Rubicon moments was back in 1992 at Majuba. That’s where I met the guys — just thrown together as Jarre, none of us really knowing who’s who or where anyone came from. A colourful bunch of strangers with nothing in common… or so it seemed.
Thirty-three years later… Look at us now. Some things hold on — stronger than time, stronger than distance, stronger than the very questions we...
Read moreWe went for a wine tasting to Neil Ellis today. We had the most dread full time at a winery ever. We were four people for the tasting and were informed by the (what do you call but as we are a large group them?) wine attendant that we can choose six different wines from a certain range but as we are a large group ( 4 people???) it has to be the same wine for all of us. When we questioned this we were told that on large groups (4+) it is too difficult and too much work for the wine attendants. Really? 4 people are too difficult and too much effort? We questioned this with another employee and he reassured us that this is company policy. We are fully aware that it is high season and today was a public holiday. The icing on the cake was that the wine attendant rushed to the staff member I was talking to and told me to "enjoy your day further". Congrats to your...
