The Activity: Duiwelsbos and Koloniesbos trail hikes R50 pp. Please note, they only accept cash. Loads of trails available in a beautiful area. We went in the afternoon and due to a lack of time, we only walked the Duiwelsbos and Koloniesbos trails. Gates close at 4pm, though the lady said they will keep the gates open after 4 if needs be. We left at 16:30 and the gate was still open for us. Duiwelsbos is out and back and Koloniesbos is a loop. If you plan on doing both (their starting points are in the same parking area), do the Koloniesbos loop first, since Duiwelsbos is much prettier. Duiwelsbos: Gorgeous streams, ferns and plectranthus everywhere. The trail is well marked. Wild and prehistoric looking. The waterfall has 2 tiers. The second fall is quite a bit higher up. There is a lovely rock pool at the base of the Duiwelsbos waterfall. It was the coldest water I’ve ever entered. The trail is quite steep Koloniesbos has everything Duiwelsbos has, but to a lesser degree. Koloniesbos is a loop though, so for the greatest part of the trail you’re exploring something new. Duiwelsbos is out and back, so you get to see everything twice at different angles

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Marloth Nature Reserve in the Western Cape, and I must say, it is an absolute natural gem. If you're looking for a serene and breathtaking escape, this Hike is a must-visit destination. The reserve's location in the Western Cape ensures a stunning backdrop of rugged mountains and lush greenery. The untouched natural landscapes create a sense of tranquility and provide a perfect setting for exploration. The wildlife encounters in Marloth Nature Reserve were nothing short of incredible. The melodic calls and vibrant plumage of the birds added an extra layer of enchantment to my experience in the forest. The trails are well-marked and maintained, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors. The accommodation options in Marloth Nature Reserve were top-notch.

The trail doesn’t start at the gate, merely where you pick up your permit. Duiwelsbos starts about 3km further but it is a nice gravel road through the pine forest. The start of Duiwelsbos itself is clearly marked with parking close by. The trail starts very easy until you reach the first pool, then it starts to rise and slowly grow steeper. Maybe it was because it was a hot day but it was also very humid underneath the tree canopy. Overall not a difficult trail because the trail is very well kept, but because it gets steeper the closer you get to the waterfall, be careful if you have bad knees.

In order of appearance: Yonela, Zama & her colleague, standby superhero Gregory, Lenise & the admin office team, Vanessa, Adam, and the whole team at Marloth, thank you for your genuine kindness, guidance, and overall positivity.

We had such a great stay at Bushbuck; we impromptu booked an extra overnight stay. The house is fully kitted and makes living away from home a breeze. Our cottage's axe was missing in action but the team was quick & very helpful in solving for that. When you do eventually get the hot tub warm enough to enjoy 😂😂😅, it makes all the fire building and consistent cauldron-style stirring well worth it, especially under the autumn sky & stars.

Our only criticism is that the signage for the parking lot for Duiwelsbos is confusing. We parked prematurely because we saw the car sign, which implied parking for the trail. We didn't mind the extended trail time, but it may not be ideal for others, especially because the unexpected extension is a bit overgrown (manageable but overgrown). Otherwise, the Duiwelsbos trail & waterfall

was magical and refreshing – especially after the rain on Monday. Great value for money and a top-tier family-style experience. We look forward to visiting again and hopefully tackling the 5-day trail.

Thank you, Team Marloth Nature...

Good afternoon I recently stayed at the Marloth Nature Reserve, one of Cape Natures beautiful gems. Upon arrival my group and I received news that the multi-day hiking trail we were all set and ready for was unfortunately closed due to the serve weather conditions over that period. Our unofficial travel agent usually plans our end of year multi-day hikes a year in advance so to say I was disappointed is a bit of an understatement. Nevertheless it was for the safety of our group and all other hikers within the Cape Nature reserves and for that I am thankful and grateful. I want to thank the incredible of the staff, Adam Nel, Hendrick, Mark and Fatima Borez at Cape Nature for their collective assistance when we were unable to proceed with our multi-day trail. Your time and efforts in helping us find alternate accommodation were not unnoticed and we are truly appreciative of that. For anyone who wishes to connect with nature and yourself, I would highly recommend the Marloth Nature Reserve. The huts in themselves are excellent, clean and neat and tidy and while you are there check out the day trails, the views are stunning and the paths are well maintained and the signage is clear and well-marked, you will not be...
