Very beautiful sight to see, not quite what we expected though - we paid R20 per person to go through the gate, they have a few stalls there with paintings and a few african traditional items for sale. We did a little walk along the trail over some rocky walk paths all the way down to the viewpoint for the waterfall. The paths are covered in rocks, please wear comfy walking shoes when you come here. We could see a bit of the gorge also along the pathway. The viewpoint has pallesades which you can look through at the waterfall. We turned around and followed another path that leads a bit upward and reached the main road... you could actually enter the premesis from there also, instead of paying to park at the parkinglot by the stalls. We made a turn at their public restrooms and saw another walkway. We went and had a look at it, but we had to climb ontop of massive rocks and could see the valley from there, but no trail, so we climbed back down and walked back to the parking. We are glad we made the stop to go see...
ย ย ย Read moreThe Mac Mac Falls are found along R532 just north of Sabie. This is one of the impressive waterfalls you will find along the Panorama Route drive in the Mpumalanga Highlands of South Africa. It is named after Scottish miners who panned for gold in the area in the late 1800s.
The falls is located directly on R532. Pay at the entrance (R15 per adult as of Oct 2019), plenty of parking near curio stalls. There are public toilet facilities as well.
Visitors walk through and behind the curio stalls 4-5 minutes to a single viewpoint where you will see a small river dropping water around 70 metres down into a natural pool sandwiched into a narrow and very green gorge. It is nice scene, even during the dry season when only a moderate volume of water is falling from the river above.
Overall, the views of Mac Mac Falls are nice to see, worth making the 10-15 minute stop when driving the Panorama Route between Sabie...
ย ย ย Read moreB....E....A.....UUUUtiful falls. Nice and adequate parking and a small stroll to the view point. Do visit this place if you're in Panorama Route. The only thing I don't understand is the ticket for it. Although it's not much but i don't think it's necessary. Per person, it's R25 for SA nationals and R50 for foreigners. A local mentioned it used to be free just a few years ago. Anyway, even with the small fee, one must go. There are some local handicrafts/ souvenirs at the parking area. What I didn't like about this fall was how the view point is made. The fence bars are so high that they block/ hinder the view to this amazing fall. Thankfully i had a drone so i could bypass those bars but i think something like nearby falls (lisbon & berlin) could've been done which doesn't...
