The Pinnacle Rock is one of the natural attractions situated along the Panorama Route in the Mpumalanga Highlands of South Africa. It is located on the R534 turnoff just north of Graskop. This is the same road you will take to the popular God's Window stop just a few minutes drive from here. Opening hours are presently stated as 7am to 5pm daily and entry fee is now R17 per person (Sept 2019). There is parking for perhaps 25-30 vehicles, decent toilet facilities and covered curios stalls if you fancy a bit of local souvenir shopping. From the carpark, it is a 2-3 minute walk to the first viewing point overlooking the Pinnacle Rock, which is a quartzite buttress that rises around 30 meters from surrounding canyon floor. Millions of years of land erosion on its sides created this natural rock tower. It is unique in appearance and attractive within the green forested canyon. There are a couple more viewpoints you can walk to around 80 metres away that make for good views of the Pinnacle Rock and landscape as well. Do have a look out for birds and monkeys in the indigenous forest within the canyon walls below if interested. Note: The Pinnacle Rock is a good first stop if you are beginning your Panorama Route drive from Graskop. It can be comfortably done in 10-15 minutes before moving on to see God's Window and other stops you intend to make. Note: We visited The Pinnacle Rock on a clear afternoon in September when visibility was very good. This made for much nicer views of the landscape compared to our June 2012 visit when the skies were very hazy.

Breathtaking views coupled with neglected facilities. The short hike from the parking lot offers an aerial view of the monument. The rock is breathtakingly beautiful and is set at the forefront of a beautiful grassland backdrop. A further pathway leads you to the opposite side of the falls which provides a different viewing perspective and appreciation of the natural wonder. I would rate the stop as a 5 star. However the public ablution facilities are appalling. The bathrooms are covered in water from runoff water from overflowing toilets. The bathrooms are not serviced and as such, I would not recommend using them. The area around the walkways are also laden with litter and unfortunately not well maintained.

Absolutely have to go here on a clear day! It is very easy to get to the viewpoint with not much walking. The entrance takes you close to the edge and then has 3 different view points. The one on the right side is the best point to view the rock. The middle viewpoint gives you a closer look at the rock and then there is a slightly off track path that takes you to the 3rd viewpoint that can see more of the landscape behind the rock. It is well maintained for the most part but can be done more to keep the tracks clear and fences maintained.
