I hesitate to put a rating on Google or any other website since it's not about the typical standards you rate against. This place is made for people who are into mindfulness, who are seeking questions to their answers without someone providing them but themselves. It's not a hotel where you can expect services like room service or room cleaning. Your coming here to become a part of it. The BRC is very special, it's a paradise where to calm down, to find yourself. The staff throughout is lovely, the environment or surroundings is phenomenal, everything has been put in place with great love. I stayed in one of the Chalets and what should I say other than - thank you, one or probably the best views combined with the energy out there I've ever had. The zendo is very special too, meditating in it is a gift. The walks on the property, which is huge, are fantastic, the nature whether plants or wildlife (birds) too. The food? I thinkt it's the best vegetarian food you would find anywhere, full stop. I certainly will come back to stay for longer and I can't wait to be back...

This is the third year my wife and I have attended the Buddhist Retreat Centre in Ixopo, South Africa. We started off with a weekend course, then a 4 day course and now a 10 day retreat. The earlier Vipassana courses had a positive impact on my life. These courses assisted me to develop my meditation practice, live in the moment and enabled me to better navigate stressful situations. The 10 day retreat, although challenging, was a Once-In-A- Lifetime experience, and it has completely shifted my outlook on life. Each day brought indescribable experiences that have profoundly changed me. I can truly say that this retreat has left a lasting impact on my life and improved the way I perceive the world. The teachers Anna and Jonathan, were always readily available, whenever we needed support and guided us with wisdom, understanding and kindness, I would especially like to thank Jonathan for his patience. I would definitely recommend attending one of the BRC offerings...

I couldn't recommend BRC more, it is a wonderful space to slow down and take a break from the demands of life. From the moment I drove in I felt more peaceful, every moment felt like bliss. The staff and volunteers are so kind, friendly, understanding and helpful. The grounds are immaculate and there are so many nooks of serenity to stumble apon. The food is beyond words and it just keeps coming, I ate and ate and just couldn't help myself because of the deliciousness and even after that, couldn't get enough and took their amazing frozen food home (which was so so lovely) I could just go on and on, from the roaring fireplace, to the energeticly charged meditation hall, the warmness and softness of the BRC has entered my heart and I am truly grateful for this peaceful and positive space in KZN and in the world. Thank you Louis and all that contine on his great legacy.

This is an amazing experience for people that dont take time off to heal their busy minds and body. Most of us work and have busy lifestyles. The scenery was calm and soothing. The food was delicious. This is a vegetarion place. No meat is served and brought on the premises by those that visit. There are different packagesOne can take a weekend package.I took the Samatic Movement package. It was based on healing the mind and body through movement. This also teaches one to slow down and destress . I also did meditation for the first time.I must say I enjoyed it .Lisa was presenting this Samatics package and she did a splendid job. When I left there I felt destressed and met lots of people from other towns that became my friends.Be open to this and find a package that suits you.Its about finding the simple you .Packing your devices away and focusing on what the package offers you.

The Buddhist Retreat Centre is one of my happy places in this world. Every retreat I have attended—both organised and self-guided—has been an enriching and deeply restorative experience. The centre is beautifully maintained and run by a fantastic team who create a warm, welcoming, and peaceful environment. The BRC is home to rare and incredible birdlife, breathtaking landscapes. It has such an inspiring rewilding story—transforming from farmland back into thriving nature. The serenity of the surroundings, combined with the centre’s mindful approach, makes it an ideal place to slow down and reconnect. The food is delicious and every aspect of the centre reflects deep care and thoughtfulness. I cannot recommend this gem highly enough—whether you are seeking stillness, inspiration, or simply a retreat into nature, the BRC is a truly special place.
