Read moreWhat a terrible experience! For the past few years I have gone to this place with different Russian friends maybe 5 or 6 times. We usually stop on the side of the road to see the memorial where Mandela was arrested, and then we walk across the road to look at the sculpture. Nowhere are there any signs to say you have to pay, or report to some kind of reception.
Last week I went again with Russian friends from Moscow. When we approached the sculpture, some rude, black security guy starts screaming at us and getting totally hysterical and super aggressive. We then understood that we were supposed report to the reception and pay before entering. This was not the case before, as we understood that payment was only necessary if one wanted to visit the museum. The more we tried to explain that we are quite willing to go and pay, the more threatening he became. One would think that in a time when tourists are so scarce, they would welcome us with open arms, but no, he was not at all interested, and even threatened to arrest us!
This place will never see me, or any of my friends again. I will be sure to spread his experience far and wide. I have many followers on my Russian blog about South Africa, and will be sure to let them all know to avoid such a rude and...
Read moreThe road to the museum reception is a dirt road🤨 can’t it be tarred or paved and broadened? Visitors range from small to large groups. A challenge for especially busses.
Though there is parking it needs proper demarcation.
A few years back access the site was free but now fee ranges between R60 and R100. Not insinuating that it should remain free. Thought I’d get a guide through the museum and to the sculpture for the price.
Staff are not friendly, not passionate about the site, what they do or the struggle icon. The museum is beautiful and a lot of artefacts and memorabilia.
If it rains it’s not a good idea to visit the site, as there is no shelter to the sculpture.
Proper fencing around the area to give the site the dignity it deserves and also seems like the locals have access to the site.
A marvellous mind boggling magnificent piece of art! Kudos...
