This place was the most educational and informative site about our former first black president in south africa Nelson rholihlahla mandela. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site is a place of historical importance and a must-visit for anyone interested in South Africa's struggle for freedom and equality. Located near the town of Howick in KwaZulu-Natal, this site commemorates the momentous event of Nelson Mandela's arrest in 1962.

Upon arrival at the site, visitors are greeted by a striking sculpture that stands tall against the backdrop of the landscape. The sculpture, created by Marco Cianfanelli, As you approach the sculpture, an image of Mandela's face shows.

The Nelson Mandela Capture Site also has an informative museum that provides a overview of Mandela's life, his role in the anti-apartheid movement, and the events leading up to his capture. The museum showcases photographs and audiovisual displays that offer valuable insights into the history and legacy of this iconic leader.

Visitors can take a guided tour of the site, where knowledgeable guides share historical facts, bringing the story of Mandela's capture to life. The guides are well-informed, ensuring we as visitors gain a deeper understanding of the significance of this site

There is also a café offering refreshments and light meals, allowing visitors to relax and reflect on...

What a terrible experience! For the past few years I have gone to this place with different Russian friends maybe 5 or 6 times. We usually stop on the side of the road to see the memorial where Mandela was arrested, and then we walk across the road to look at the sculpture. Nowhere are there any signs to say you have to pay, or report to some kind of reception.

Last week I went again with Russian friends from Moscow. When we approached the sculpture, some rude, black security guy starts screaming at us and getting totally hysterical and super aggressive. We then understood that we were supposed report to the reception and pay before entering. This was not the case before, as we understood that payment was only necessary if one wanted to visit the museum. The more we tried to explain that we are quite willing to go and pay, the more threatening he became. One would think that in a time when tourists are so scarce, they would welcome us with open arms, but no, he was not at all interested, and even threatened to arrest us!

This place will never see me, or any of my friends again. I will be sure to spread his experience far and wide. I have many followers on my Russian blog about South Africa, and will be sure to let them all know to avoid such a rude and...

The road to the museum reception is a dirt road🤨 can’t it be tarred or paved and broadened? Visitors range from small to large groups. A challenge for especially busses.

Though there is parking it needs proper demarcation.

A few years back access the site was free but now fee ranges between R60 and R100. Not insinuating that it should remain free. Thought I’d get a guide through the museum and to the sculpture for the price.

Staff are not friendly, not passionate about the site, what they do or the struggle icon. The museum is beautiful and a lot of artefacts and memorabilia.

If it rains it’s not a good idea to visit the site, as there is no shelter to the sculpture.

Proper fencing around the area to give the site the dignity it deserves and also seems like the locals have access to the site.

A marvellous mind boggling magnificent piece of art! Kudos...

The site is a landmark in our countries history. The culture at the end of the long walk is epic and I wished i shared this moment with my dad who was a great historian and recently passed. The project seems community driven , with people from the surrounding area staffing and running it. its a very worthwhile stop on a journey through the Midlands. I love the fact that young people are running it aswell...what i would change or add is the book shop...it is a little boring and I think we can do more with that space . I also feel like that book shop can make a lot of income for the capture site because everyone wants to take a part of that site home . I was pleasantly surprised to see so many white people carefully reading ...and learning, that made my heart smile . I'm not sure how it use to look but i think the new building is beautiful.....

Nelson Mandela Capture site is on the beautiful countryside . Along the way, there are dairy farms ,grasslands on the hills and mountains. This Nelson Mandela Capture site route is breathtaking, a spectacle with b&bs ,restaurants and pub . Driving from Howick ,freeway ,opted for Nottingham road further down countryside farm route. Nelson Mandela Capture Site , has entrance fee. There is a museum, in summary detailing Mandela and comrades life journey ,the "struggle" they faced to get freedom from the apartheid government . The museum is eye opening ,as you go out there is ,steel placards detailing Mandela birth story from 1918 to the time of his departure. A giant Mandela sculpture stands beautifully. There was construction ,and the restaurant seemed to be closed. I enjoyed and gained some knowledge.
