My mother-in-law came down to South Africa for her daughter's wedding and she and her partner decided that they absolutely had to visit Manley as they both love the wine, and drink it all the time.
She had booked a self-catering house, as we were only staying for one night. There was a nice sized house not far from the main office but there was no running water that night (from about 6pm to midnight), because there was something wrong with the borehole and no technician onsite due to his taking the long weekend off.
Also, it is a self-catering house, and we didn't expect much in terms of food items. That said, the house is meant to sleep 6 people but there was only enough cutlery in the house for 3 people. There was bottled water in the fridge, which we used to wash hands (due to the lack of water) and the fridge was filthy. I made the mistake of looking in the fridge's little freezer which was frozen over and looked to have old meat blood mixed in with it.
Further, the receptionist was extremely standoff-ish and made a point of telling us that the farm was hosting a wedding the next day (Saturday) and that we were not to disturb the guests. Now, I understand wanting to create a specific atmosphere for the wedding but we were also paying guests, and this answer was given to us when we asked if it was ok for us to explore the farm a little on the Friday evening. We were a group of four adults, no children, and two of the adults were over the age of 60. I wonder what they thought we were going to do to disturb the other guests.
All-in-all, this was a very weird experience and the service left a lot to be desired. Even for self-catering, the house was very bare bones and definitely not worth the cost...

Read moreMy partner and I had a stunning experience at Manley Wine Estate. We stayed for 3 nights and had the most wonderful time there.||We cheekily asked to help out, as it was harvest time and the owners were more than happy to give us the chance. ||Joshua the wine maker gave us the most personalised and proud tour of the whole process and we helped out sorting the grapes and doing some hand mashing too! Not sure we actually helped but it was a true experience.||We had a beautiful wine tasting experience by the two owners too. Such a beautiful tasting too. Their Pintotages are simply the best we’ve ever tasted and we wish we had bought more than the few we bought.||They have a lovely pool, great grounds, a small church, and picturesque views all around.||We couldn’t have had a better time in all honesty. The staff were very friendly too. We don’t get a chance to eat at the restaurant but are planning to when we come back in 2 years time.||We had never explored Tulbagh before and it’s a beautiful town, especially on Church Street. So many beautiful and original buildings.||We fully recommend taking a trip to Tulbagh. It’s very local and down to earth and truly beautiful.||Thanks guys, you made our stay...
