We went to this place via tour through Trazy (Gwangyang Maehwa Village & Jeonju Hanok Village Tour) and had no issues getting there because of it. It is quite far from Seoul, but the place itself is very beautiful and worth visiting through a day trip. If you want to go as a foreigner, I would recommend going through a tour and not by public transportation, it’s just too far. We went in mid-march (March 17) and it was at 70% bloom. It is very hilly. It was mostly Korean nationals visiting when we went and in my opinion the people at the actual plum blossom farm were not very accustomed to foreigners. Most of the venodrs along the main path, the people working at the ice cream spot, and merchants at the market next to one of the parking spots were super nice though and had so many nice things that they were selling. If you go, definitely try out the plum blossom ice cream, the roasted chestnuts, and visit the market by one of the tour bus spots (it is NOT right next to the main town, it’s actually a ~3 min shuttle bus away from the main town). I deducted a star for how much litter there was in the farm itself (compared to Seoul), which was really shocking/surprising to me.

Read moreThe Mehwa(Plum Blossom) Festival of Gwangyang The local heritage of Korea that I will introduce is the Mehwa(Plum Blossom) Festival in Gwangyang. It is held in Maehwa Village near the Seomjingang River in Gwangyang. And this is the place where I had memories of my childhood. The Mehwa(Plum Blossom) Festival begins in the spring when flowers begin to bloom. Plums began to be planted in Maehwa Village more than 50 years ago, and eventually there were so many and beautiful plum blossoms that the Plum Festival was held. This area is a famous festival that attracted about 1.34 million tourists during the festival. In the Maehwa Festival, there are very beautiful mountains, rivers, trees, and villages. You can also experience performances and various plum foods that can only be enjoyed at this plum festival. However, it is very unfortunate that the plum festival could not be held until recently due to the COVID-19 incident in 2019. I hope the COVID-19 situation stabilizes quickly and you can enjoy the plum festival while watching beautiful plum blossoms. If you have a chance later, I hope you go to the plum festival. It is one of the most recommended local festivals...
