Gongcheonpo Black Sand Beach — Attraction in Seogwipo-si

The August weather was very hot in Korea last summer & I was dying to get to the beach so we took a trip to Gongcheonpo Black Sand Beach. Since Jeju is a volcanic island, the black sand beach is quiet, quaint, & unique little spot to visit. It is usually frequented by locals, fishermen & tourists staying near by.

There is an easily accessible parking lot there with many restaurants & cafes in the area. You can either sit on the benches facing the water or walk down the stairs to the black sand & volcanic rock beach. It is not ideal for swimming but it is a nice spot to relax by the water & collect shells.

At night you can watch the squid boats fishing in the area & can easily identify them by the brights lights that surround the boat. The squid are attracted to the light & come up to the surface where they are then caught by using purse seines & scoop nets to...
