Very impressive view on top. Not convenient hike but really requires a bit effort. Too many people around on top. Just before sunset was good in that way that most of the people had left the peak already.

Route is made all the way possible to climb without additional equipment or previous experience. Some parts are quite steep but there are cables to hold by hands and decrease risk of falling. Beginning of the trail was tricky to locate. I started at wrong place and ended up circulating around the mountain for an hour. Different route alternatives are a maze. Seems that one of the shortest trails begins at ’Academy information centre’.

Climb up took ~three hours. Way down two hours. I left the peak one hour before the sunset and it got pitch black half an hour before I figured myself all the way down, which was not safe for last part.

Water usage was 2,5 liters but I saw locals were doing it with 1 liter or less.

To compare with Gwanaksan, I liked it more in terms of difficulty and angle of view. Anyway this had to be done anyway as well and...

I hiked from "Bukhasanseong valley trail entrance", it took me 2h to the top and 2h back without stopping. Almost the whole way is in the shadow, except for the very end. The whole trail is just stairs with no moment to catch a break on a flat terrain. Take 2 liters of water per person. There are railings almost everywhere, which helped a lot, especially on the way down. The stones themselves are not tricky, and even though it`s always best to wear hiking boots, many people manage it in sneakers. I went up in sports sandals, but I was the only one crazy enough to be doing that. For the way down I changed into sport shoes. Also, there are a lot of hiking gear stores on the approach to the park entrance, so you can buy hiking sticks or shoes or clothes if you need to. It is a difficult hike if you are a regular person, I could barely walk for the next few days, even though I go on hikes multiple times every summer and on every vacation. Dont bring children and dont go during or right...

Bukhansan National Park is a great place to hike and it is smack dab in the northern part of Seoul. I had to take a subway there from Gangnam because it is on the other side of the city but it was worth it. There are lots of different hikes to choose from. I chose the 'easy' since this was my first time. It was interesting to start a hike from a subway station but I took line 6 to Bulgwang Station and started the hike there. The first peak to get to was Jokduribong. It took about an hour. There were lots of rocks and it was pretty slippery. I think that is because the path is so eroded from so many people. Then I carried on to another peak. I think it was called Hyangrobong. Then finally I got to the last peak, Munsubong and after enjoying the air and atmosphere, I walked back down. Along the last leg of the hike, there were cables secured into the rocks on the way up. If you are a rock climber, it would be like a 5.0. I recommend going early in the morning!

It is so big that it has more than 50 access points. It has lots of peaks too! If you are a nature lover and you want to avoid the crowded destinations in Seoul, Mt. Bukhansan is the perfect place to go. The view is a just beautiful. It’s a mixture of Seoul city landscapes and nature. You’ll see a number of mini falls while hiking. Climbing to the top of Baegundae (the tallest peak) was a workout. My hiking thus far has not produced the billy goat legs I keep expecting to replace my own, so I struggled, huffed, and puffed my way to the top just before sunset. The colors were incredible once I got about halfway up. I couldn’t stop to take as many pictures as I wished since the light was fading fast and I had no clue about how much more hiking would be required until I reached the summit. There was also the issue of having too many beautiful things to photograph in every direction. 6 hours climb! Worth experience!
