Gorgeous smaller temple, worth stopping here to rest if you're doing the hike to Dobong Peak. Otherwise not really worth going out of your way for (assuming you're not Buddhist and specifically want to visit here), there are other temples in Bukhansan National Park and in Seoul that you'll find easier to visit.

이곳에서 처음으로 템플스테이를 했습니다. 주변에 자연환경이 잘 조성되있는거 같아 선택했는데 생각보다 산 깊숙이에 있어서 당황스러웠습니다. 원래 등산을 좋아하지 않는터라 도중에 너무 힘들었지만, 천축사의 자연환경에 반해서 등산이 좋아지게 되었습니다. 절은 크지 않은 규모로 적당했고 식사로 제공해주는 음식이 자유롭게 먹을 수 있고 넉넉히 준비를 해주셨습니다. 특히 강낭콩 조림은 너무 맛있었어요! 스님은 여자분이셨는데 너무 과하지도, 부족하지도 않는 안내로 부담스럽지 않았습니다. 그리고 방은 크지는 않았지만 샤워시설이 잘 갖춰져있고 난방이 잘되어 편하게 묵을 수 있었습니다. 그리고 역사가 깊은 점도 인상깊고 이곳에서 조금 더 올라가면 마당바위와 신선대가 있어서 그곳이 목표인 분들이 묵어가시기 좋을 것 같습니다. 이곳에 가신다면 정말 힐링이 제대로 될 것이고, 등산도 할 수 있어서 자연을 제대로 즐기고 가실 수 있을겁니다. 다만 비수기에는 사람이 너무 없어 밤에는 조금 무서웠습니다.

도봉산 신선도를 가는 코스 중 마당바위쪽 가다보면 만나게 되는 절. 이하 네이버에서 퍼옴. 천축사(天竺寺)는 673년(문무왕 13)에 의상 대사가 절을 지어 옥천암(玉泉庵)이라 하였으며, 고려 명종 때에는 근처에 영국사(寧國寺)가 창건되고 그 부속 암자로 맥을 이었다. 조선 시대에 들어와 1398년(태조 7) 함흥에서 돌아오던 태조가 옛날 이곳에서 백일기도하던 것을 상기하여 절을 중창하고 천축사라는 사액을 내렸다. 1474년(성종 5) 성종의 명으로 천축사가 중창되고, 명종 때에는 문정 왕후(文貞王后)가 화류 용상(樺榴龍床)을 하사하여 불좌(佛座)를 만들었다. 1812년(순조 12)에 승려 경학(敬學)이 절을 중창하였다. 1816년(순조 16)에 신도 김연화(金蓮花)가 불량답(佛糧沓) 15두락을 절에 희사하였으며, 이후에도 불량답 희사 등 시주가 끊이지 않고 계속되었다.

Said to have veen functioning for thousands of years and still amazingly welcoming. Gorgeous detail on the new temple, but the jewel is the meditation cove carved right into the side of the mountain. It was a reatful reprieve from the hike up...

Cool temple that is worth going to if you are hiking up the mountain. It's nothing much different than other Korean temples but it has a nice view and the usual nice architecture...
