Sup Sogui Hosu' in Minnesota,is the name of a Korean village among 14 foreign language village programs run by Concordia Language Vilage, a non-profit organization. Designed by Archigroup MA architect Yoo Byung An,the Korean language vilage consists of a dormitory with a "ㄷ" shape, a device to feel the borrowing landscape, and an American-style heavy-wood structure with elements to feel the spatial beauty of Hanok. Architect Yoo Byung An designed the ratio, aesthetics, and philosophy of Hanok based on Byeongsan Seowon Mandaeru and Jongmyo Shrine. 4 out of a total of 10 units have been built, and six more are being funded. Mr. Yoo would like to show these design processes and examples of the completed 'Sup Sogui Hosu' through archives and present a future that we can easily access In various ways that contain the space and philosophy of Hanok beyond realizing Hanok as a one dimensional traditional structure.
I think what we should learn from Hanok is not simply the reproduction or details of traditional Hanok, but rather the reinterpretation of the Spirit and Philosophy that Hanok tries to convey to us with the spirit of our times. Architect...
