Cheonjedan — Attraction in Taebaek-si

Cheonjedan altar on top of Taebaeksan mountain

Where my son and I used to come every year at the very beginning of January to make our New Years wishes until 10 years ago (it was almost a family ritual between us).

I finally came back but alone this time.

Incredibly nothing is changed here (even the public sauna we came to after the hike is exactly the same), only time has passed.

Possibly the biggest draw for Taebaeksan National Park, this altar is the centrally located of the three main altars. There is a lot of history here for sure, but the views are arguably the most impressive thing about this place. In winter, the views of all the surrounding mountains, the crisp winter skies, and the snow on the trees make for some incredible scenery. Highly recommended...

태백산천제단. 이월말에 아버지와 동생과 다녀왔다 이월이라는게 믿기지않을정도로 거세개 눈이 몰아쳤는데 그마저도 너무 운치있고 낭만적이였다. 올라가는 길은 눈이쾅쾅얼어있어 아이젠이 없으면 올라가기 불가능할정도. 밑에 편의점에서 팔고있어 다행이였다.

두시간쯤올라가니 절이나왔다 절에서 컵라면과 커피를 팔고있어 도저히 그냥 지나칠수없어 한그릇했는데 옛날학교에서 몰래 끓여먹던 라면맛을 다시 느꼇다. 감동 그자체! 쓰레기는 봉지에넣어 산밑에 가서 버려야한다는소리를듣고 내려오면서 먹을껄.. 했지만 가방에 쓰레기봉투끈을 묶고 다시올라갔다. 정상까지는 삼십분정도 더걸렸는데 올라가니 그간의 고생이 사르르녹아버렸다.

하늘에 제사를지내는 천제단이 나를 반겨주었다. 폭설이 무색할정도로 정상에는 사람들이 줄을 서서 사진을 찍고있었다. 우리도 사진을 찍고 내려왔는데 사실 절경에 너무 푹빠져 그 추운강풍에서도 삼십분동안을 정상에 있다가왔다.
