Naea is located right next to Dongheon, and is the space where the Ulsan governors and their families lived in the past. 외부에서 보면 저기에 뭐 볼게 있겠어 싶을 정도로 주변의 건물들과 어울리지 않게(우체국,허름한 주택들,공사중인 가벽 등등) 입구만 두드러지게 세워져 있습니다(입구와 어울리는 벽이 안보임). 동헌이라는 곳이 사실 옛날에 지역 관리가 살면서 업무를 보던 곳이기 때문에 경복궁,창덕궁 처럼 돌벽이 기다렇게 쭈욱 있을 정도록 규모가 그리 크지는 않았을 걸로 생각되지만 우체국 같은 건물이 그 앞을 가리고 있는 것은 다소 아쉬움이 있습니다.

내부는 일단 생각보다 넓고 깨끗하게 잘 가꾸어져 있습니다. 계획적으로 정원을 가꾼 흔적이 역력합니다. 나무나 돌들이 아무렇게나 있지 않고 오와 열을 맞춰 매우 깔끔하다는 인상을 받습니다.

사실 볼 것은 그리 많지 않습니다. 고을 관리(현령,사또)가 살았던 방이라던지, 역대 관리들을 기리는 비석 등이 있습니다. 전체적으로 조용히 산책하기 좋은, 잘 가꿔진 정원에 온 느낌이랄까... 옛날 사람들이 살고, 업무를 하던 곳이라는 느낌은 크게 받지 못합니다.

이게 아쉬운 점인데요, 깨끗하게 잘 관리되어 있지만 이곳이 역사적인 장소이기 때문에 보존, 관리하는 곳이라면 어떤 사람들이 무슨 일을 하던 곳이라는 것이 더 중요한데 그것 보다는 그냥 예쁘게 꾸미는 일에 집중한 것 같다는 겁니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 머리가 복잡할 때 조용히 산책하러 오기에는 그리 나쁘지 않습니다. 관광장소라고 하기에는...
