Castell de Palma — Attraction in Alfauir

Great sights await thoee daring the easy climb. The entire route is very well maintained and the fact is that - baring the last part of the hike - most of the climb is made simple by how well maintained the route is. Sadly; as is the case with many fortifications in the area not much remains of the 'castle' itself, time having exacted its dues. The remaining walls however do give an indication of the strategic importance the site might have held...

La fortalesa consta de dos recintes emmurallats, de forma rectangular. L'inferior(de més de mil metres quadrats d’extensió), es va construir en tàpia adaptant-se a l'orografia del terreny i delimitava l'albacar, no tenint construccions interiors. A l'angle nord-oest hi havia el recinte superior, el sobirà, amb una superfície de quasi 600 metres;més complex i reforçat per almenys dues torres, una circular de maçoneria i una altra quadrangular de tàpia, que defensava l'únic accés a aquesta part del castell. Del “castillo” queda más bien poco. Y en dicha época dudo que fuera un castillo, más bien una torre defensiva de vigilancia y poco más. Sin camino para subir carros y siendo la parte central prácticamente todo un aljibe llamarlo castillo es un poco exagerado. Por lo demás la ruta hasta arriba esta bien, no es muy complicada quitando que las señales del sendero están en mal estado, sobre todo las de senda equivocada, y la cuerda final si estuviera anclada a la pared en plan barandilla facilitaría muchísimo más la...
