El Torcal is a place where you see some real amazing rock formations in an area that has been well preserved. To reach it, either take a tour or drive as there is no public transportation due to its remoteness. The entry to the park is free, but it is advisable to plan it during a week day when you can drive up directly to the visitor centre, which has a restaurant, souvenir shop and restrooms. On weekends however, it is a busy place. They close up the road and you have to park about 5 km short. Since this spot also cannot cater for the number of vehicles, one needs to be creative in finding a spot. To reach the visitor centre from the lower parking, one can take a shuttle bus (€2 return), or hike up the orange trail. This trail is a gradual uphill climb of 3.75 km and takes the best part of 2 hours with stops en-route to admire the rock formations and many mountain goats that you encounter. After the visitor centre, the actual trail starts and there are 2 of them. The green is about a km long and takes you about 45 minutes, whereas the yellow one is a bit longer at over 2 km and takes about 90 minutes. They both are loops and you return to the visitor centre for your return. The trails are well marked, but one needs to be careful while treading the path as the stones are uneven. Wearing a good pair of hiking shoes is strongly recommended for ankle support, especially on the down hill portions. While on the trails, one is rewarded with some cool vistas of nature at work and the erosion that has shaped the rock formations. Some real lovely memories can be taken back. We saw many kids negotiating the trail with ease and so were many hikers with dogs on a leash. People with mobility issues should not attempt to do either of the trails, but can also be rewarded with nice views from the visitors centre itself.

Wow, our family had an absolutely amazing time at El Torcal de Antequera! This unique natural park in southern Spain is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves stunning views and outdoor adventure. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the sheer beauty of the landscape. The park is home to a series of towering limestone formations that have been sculpted into breathtaking shapes over millions of years. As we hiked through the park, we were constantly stopping to snap photos and take in the stunning vistas. But it wasn't just the scenery that made our visit so memorable. El Torcal de Antequera is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including birds of prey, mountain goats, and even wild boar! We were lucky enough to spot several of these amazing creatures during our visit, which was a real highlight for our kids. One of the things we loved most about El Torcal de Antequera was the range of activities on offer. We hiked along several different trails, including some that were more challenging and others that were more accessible for our younger children. We also took part in a guided tour that provided fascinating insights into the geology and ecology of the park. Overall, our family can't recommend El Torcal de Antequera highly enough. It's a truly special place that offers something for everyone, from jaw-dropping scenery to unforgettable wildlife encounters. We'll definitely be back!

Amazing example of “karst” landscape. Its name comes from torcas Meaning sinkholes. Interesting formations Of circular concavities. This is limestone more than 150 million years old formed by marine debris thanks to erosion. It’s really something different to see and feel when you’re up in the antequerras. Expect the temperature to be a few degrees lower than sea level due to altitude. There are walking circuits anything from one to 3 1/2 km. I would suggest suitable for beginners but there is some essence and decent and pebble paths with big rocks that require large upward and downward steps are in so the fitness of the hiker must be ample. There are disability provisions made by the national park please check these are suitable for your purposes on an individual basis. All in all the drive up and down the mountain to spend an afternoon walking around a wonderful national park is well worth your time in a visit.

Spectacular Limestone Karst scenery. We stopped here for a few hours after spending the night in Antequera & before continuing on to Malaga. Nice , large car park & a modern visitor centre with a cafe & toilets. We arrived pretty early so there were not many about. There are walking trails & a designated viewpoint near the visitors centre. You don't have to walk very far at all to enjoy far reaching views & look in awe at the fabulous rock formations. The Iberian Ibex are probably the most evident living attraction & we saw a good few very near to the visitors centre so they are evidently used to humans at close quarters. Many interesting plants among the rocks & we saw Griffon Vultures. Other mammals & reptiles live here , too but I guess you need luck & more time to see them , especially as things had become quite busy by the time we left.

El Torcal de Antequera is an incredible natural reserve with unique rock formations. It takes about 3 hours to complete the trail, so good shoes are highly recommended! This nature reserve in the Sierra del Torcal mountain range, located south of Antequera, Málaga, is one of the most impressive karst landscapes in Europe. Designated a Natural Site of National Interest in 1929 and a Natural Park Reserve in 1978, it spans about 17 square kilometers. The Jurassic limestone, around 150 million years old, was uplifted during the Tertiary era, resulting in the remarkable landscape seen today. The formations resemble objects like the Sphinx and the Camel, making it a fascinating place to explore.
