A Cheese Lover's Paradise: Museo del Queso Majorero

The Museo del Queso Majorero is an absolute delight for anyone passionate about cheese, food, or the rich history of Fuerteventura. This captivating museum offers a comprehensive journey through the island's cheese-making tradition, from its humble beginnings to its current status as a renowned delicacy.

The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, combining informative displays with interactive elements that make the experience engaging for visitors of all ages. I was particularly impressed by the detailed explanation of the cheese-making process, from the care of the Majorero goats to the final product. The museum also showcases the cultural significance of cheese in the local community, making it a truly immersive experience.

One of the highlights was undoubtedly the opportunity to taste a variety of Majorero cheeses. The tasting room offers a wonderful selection, allowing visitors to savor the unique flavors and textures of this exceptional cheese. The knowledgeable staff is happy to provide recommendations and share their expertise.

Beyond the cheese, the museum also boasts a beautiful cactus garden and a restored windmill, adding to the overall charm of the place. It's clear that a lot of care and passion has gone into creating this wonderful museum, and it's a must-visit for anyone exploring Fuerteventura.

Visiting this museum was one of the highlights of our trip to Fuerteventura. Nestled in a serene spot with sweeping views of the island's desert landscape, the setting alone is worth the visit — vast, open, and truly spectacular, it gives you a real sense of the island’s raw natural beauty.

Inside, the museum offers a fascinating look at one of Fuerteventura's most iconic traditions: goat cheese making. The exhibits are both informative and engaging, showcasing the entire process from traditional methods to modern techniques. You can see how the cheese is made, learn about the importance of goats to the local culture, and even sample some of the freshest and most delicious goat cheese we’ve ever tasted.

It’s a perfect mix of education, culture, and natural beauty. Whether you're a foodie, a history buff, or simply looking to explore something unique and authentic, this museum delivers a genuine taste of the island in more...

Interesting to see history of the Island and how local Cheese is made. Other exhibits explain different theories as to how the Island was formed and some of the sea life found at different depths. A couple of the videos and interactive features didn't work but the entry fee isn't expensive (€4 per adult over 11 yrs with reduced tickets for children) so very much worth a visit if you're interested in the history of the Island or Cheese. Definitely worth it if you like both! Cactus Garden pleasant to walk around and you can climb up a ladder into the top of the Windmill but there isn't a viewpoint - just a model of what would have been up there if it was in service. Update July 2023: Friendly resident Cat likes to play with Walking Sticks and you can now try a plate of local cheeses and a glass of Honey Rum for an additional €3, as well as purchase Cheese and locally made items...
