TL;DR: The gorge hike is worth it, just be prepared for a confusing parking and how to get to the hike.

Be prepared for a hike of 1.5 km to get to the start of the hike where they scan your ticket.

Be prepared for 2 km hike to get to the shuttle buses when the actual gorges hike is done.

It isn't possible to get to the starting location by car.

It is possible to park at the end of the hike and take the shuttle back to the start then hike 1.5 kms to get to the hike starting point.

There is a trail of about 1-1.5 kms between the two gorges.

Long review:

The gorge hike is great.

But due to the large number of people who visit you need to book tickets almost a month and a half before.

Getting there is a bit confusing with the different parking locations. I went to the center parking at the reception since I paid for it with my ticket.

After waiting for the shuttle bus and paying 2.5eu to get to the starting place is the hike, you realize that you need to walk about 1.5KM to get to the actual starting point.

When arriving you get your headgear and wait for your group if you have booked a group ticket. You can ask to go solo and they would allow it depending on the number of people.

I would recommend going solo, the hike is quite easy, and the explanations they give you can easily read online.

There are 2 gorge walks, one at the beginning of the hike, and one towards the end with a hanging bridge crossing.

Between the two gorges there is a regular hiking trail for about 2 KMs.

After you finish the hike there is another 2KM hike just to get to the shuttle bus stops (2 kms after the gorge ends).

Depending on the number of people at the bus stop you may need to wait in line for a good amount of time. I had to wait in line for 2 buses which got full, then I managed to get on the third bus, around 40 minutes wait (that's after the hike and in the sun and you have to stand in line so other hikers won't get in front of you.

Then a 20 minutes bus ride to the starting location where I parked.

An hour and a half hike was made into a 4 hours Wich is unnecessary in my opinion.

The gorge is lovely. The scenery is amazing. The history of it and how they built and maintained it is amazing. The cleanliness and safety of the site is amazing.

But all the hustle to reach it and the added hikes before and after the gorges makes the hike longer and less...

An absolutely brilliant place, with stunning views. The guided tour was in English or Spanish. The guide option is well worth it. Our guide Pablo was fantastic, funny and very knowledgeable about the flora, animals, ecological and historical of the area. We actually missed our time slot and had the option to go alone or wait for the next English speaking tour to see if they had gaps to take us. I'm so glad that we waited

TOP TIP: Make sure that you arrive at the meeting point 30 minutes before your actual time on your ticket. As you are supplied with a hair network net, hard hat, radio, and headphones. You also will receive a talk on health and safety and a headphone check to ensure that you can hear the guide.

The trip was made in December at 10am - definitely glad that I had my coat as it was chilly and in the walk initially was in the shade. Make sure that you wear trainers or hiking boots. Additionally, make sure that you have a small rucksack or your handbag is a crossbody type.

The trek was at a leisurely pace with stops to take in the spectacular views.

Crossing the suspended bridge was totally fine. It's just very windy up there, so you need to hold your camera / phone tightly.

At the end of the tour, there are restrooms and a small selection of kiosks and cafes selling souvenirs and hot/cold drinks.

The bus pick up is every 30 minutes, and you have to purchase a ticket from the small kiosk next to the bus stop. €2.50 per person as at Dec 2023.

Estupenda visita la de ayer domingo 4 de junio a El Caminito del Rey. Fuimos desde Cartagena hasta Málaga y la verdad que las casi 5 horas de camino merecieron la pena. En el parking del centro de visitantes el guarda de seguridad nos atendió súper bien y nos indicó muy correctamente cómo desplazarnos en bus desde allí hasta el acceso norte del caminito. El chofer del bus igual: súper educado, atento y amable. Una vez nos bajamos, atravesamos un pequeño túnel y a 1,5 km aproximadamente estaba la entrada al camino. El personal de allí resolvió todas nuestras dudas y nos trató de diez. Las explicaciones, indicaciones y recomendaciones de seguridad previas al comienzo de la visita súper claras y muy bien explicadas. Nos tocó una guía, Mar, súper amable, simpática y familiarizó enseguida con todo el grupo. Nos explico toda la información de la visita y contó la historia del caminito de forma y manera muy entendibles. Una empleada como debe de ser. Y lo que más me gustó que cada x minutos nos preguntaba si íbamos bien y si necesitábamos parar o algo. En la parte ya casi final llegamos a una plataforma de cristal, un balcón, donde había un empleado con un casco rojo el cual fue muy amable y súper educado y tubo el detalle y la cortesía de hacernos a mi y a una amiga unas fotos. Un poco más hacia delante llegamos al puente colgante, donde había otro empleado con un casco rojo. Esta es la única etapa negativa de nuestra visita. Esperamos a que otros visitantes este empleado les echara unas fotos como hiciera el otro empleado en la plataforma de cristal. Cuando nos tocaba a nosotros, se puso a beber agua. Algo lógico y entendible con la calor que hacía. Al acabar de beber agua y viendo que no me decía nada y se me quedo mirando, la dije “perdona, nos puedes echar unas fotos?”. Respuesta tajante del empleado: “yo no soy fotógrafo”. O sea: estás haciéndoles fotos a todas las personas que van delante nuestra y llegamos y nos sueltas esa respuesta? No lo entiendo. No entiendo esa falta de respeto a mi y a mis tres amigos. Y el sentirnos inferiores al ver un trato distintivo y de desprecio hacia nosotros sin siquiera conocernos de nada. No entiendo ni entendí en ese momento esa actuación y actitud. Y lo peor que la cosa no acaba aquí. Lo peor fue como a los siguientes les seguía haciendo las fotos. No hice ni dije nada en ese momento por no montar un espectáculo pero si por mi fuera ese empleado hubiera Siro despedido en el momento. No puede haber gestos ni actitudes discriminatorias en este tipo de trabajos en el que estas de cara al público. Lo sé porque yo trabajo de cara al público y esas actitudes y comportamientos no se pueden consentir en los tiempos en los que estamos. Volveré al camino. Seguro de ello estoy. Quitando este incidente, la visita ha sido de 10. Un trato de 10. Y todo de 10 excepto lo ocurrido con ese empleado. Si la empresa lee mi reseña, al menos que le digan a ese empleado que vive del público y que está de cara al público. Y que si le haces las fotos a todo el mundo se las haces a todo el mundo. Sin excepciones ni discriminaciones.
