Mirador de Orellán — Attraction in Borrenes

What I like and didn’t like:

I liked the fact that it’s situated more than 1000m above sea level and the steamy mood and vide you get is pretty. There is now a car park controlled by a gentleman and it’s not for free. I am unsure how much my father in law paid that day but should be somewhere no more than €5, he also knows almost every bit of the Leon county, I like nature and discovering places. It’s a breakaway or getaway break if you want a peaceful area just to sink in. I am unsure if it’s because we went around mid May or it was because the weather wasn’t hotter than what you would think, with it being Spain. What I didn’t like is the security measures are not in place. I would like to go there with my kids and feel freely they would be okay if I don’t hold their hand. The cars have to squeeze up to make room for each other, so if you are someone not confident to drive it’s best to leave the wheel to someone who can. By doing this you avoid involving other’s life if something has to go wrong. Overall I would highly recommend to visit this area full of history...

Amazing. We got up early and arrived at the car park around 7:30am. The walk from the car park is about 1 km. There is a barrier so you cannot get any closer. The walk starts off very inclined and becomes more steady for a bit. Then the last bit is again very inclined. Pure guess but would say you are rising up 300m elevation overall. If you think of a treadmill in the gym it's all more than level 10 incline. Please don't let that put you off. Just take it slow if you find it hard. When you get to the large viewing platforms it's an awesome sight. We had the place to ourselves for an hour. We watched the sun rise begin to fall across the tops of the little peaks. It looks like something you might expect to see in Australia with the golden earth and vibrant green carpet of trees. Plus we got to watch the birds nesting near by in the cliffs waking up and filling the sky as a bonus. Looked...

El Mirador de Orellán, es una visita imprescindible si queremos conocer Las Médulas. A él podemos llegar básicamente mediante tres sistemas, en automóvil. en bicicleta o a pie. Si nos desplazamos desde la población de Las Médulas en coche al mirador, recorreremos unos pocos kilómetros por unas carreteras bastante estrechas hasta llegar a una zona de aparcamiento gratuito donde una barrera y una señal de dirección prohibida nos impedirá hacer los últimos 500 metros que restan para llegar al Mirador de Orellán y a las Galerías de Orellán. Si alguno de los viajeros tiene algún grado de minusvalía, se puede pedir autorización para levantar la barrera. Ese último medio kilómetro es de una pendiente bastante pronunciada por los cual, salvo que tengamos una excelente condición física, tendremos que hacer la subida con calma y podemos tardar hasta 10 minutos para recorrer esos 500 metros. Si viajamos en bicicleta podremos utilizar alguno de los caminos que llegan al mirador con lo que acortaríamos en recorrido. Finalmente también podemos llegar al Mirador de Orellán utilizando las sendas que existen en las Médulas. Utilizando la Senda de Las Valiñas como punto de partida encontraremos un desvío que asciende al Mirador de Orellan y al que llegaremos en una hora aproximadamente. Centrándonos en el mirador hay que indicar que es el lugar más apropiado para observar el paisaje de Las Médulas que fue la mayor mina de oro a cielo abierto del Imperio Romano y cuya belleza radica en el contraste unas curiosas colinas de color rojizo, que son los restos del interior de la montaña original, rodeadas del verdor del abundante arbolado. Una recomendación final para los amantes de la fotografía: no conviene visitar el mirador a última hora de la tarde pues el sol, que en ese momento está muy bajo, perturbara el perfecto...
