What a great day! Our family loved our morning on the water, with these excellent, informed, and eloquent guides. They were as willing and excited to practice their English as they were patient with my Spanish. They were funny, kind, and helped us feel included despite us being the only English speaking members of the group. They recommended a wonderful cafe, Le Pastis, for us to wait while our driver was shuttled back to our car, and our lunch there was the icing on the cake after a wonderful tour. This tour confirmed we made the right choice to visit Zaragoza, a city that gives you more of a slice of life in Spain than a tourist’s view.
The owner of this company is a geologist first, kayaking tour guide second. The kayaking business has helped him spread the word of the improved health of the Ebro River, that it is a safe place for swimming and recreation, and bringing attention to the importance of caring for the river and the methods they use to monitor its health through each kayaking trip.
There were several kids and people of all ages in our group. Lots of people enjoyed a swim in the river, and I really appreciated the watermelon and peanuts snack they provided during a beach break. I do wish we’d brought more water and sunscreen for a touch up. The boats can hold these easily and securely, and their waterproof containers can also keep your snacks dry if you want to bring your own. This is the only thing I wish I’d known in advance, though their communication ahead of time was outstanding in all other regards. Our tour was on an unusually cool day in June (started at 63F, ended around 82F, and by the end it still felt super hot! So a wide-brimmed hat definitely makes it more tolerable in the sun, especially for Zaragoza’s hotter days. I highly recommend this tour for locals...
Read moreOur kayak tour on the Ebro River with Néstor was one of the absolute highlights of our holidays. As we could only take part in the El Castellar trip outside of Zaragoza, he gave us very detailed information on how to get there without a car and which kayak to choose. During the tour, Néstor was super attentive, shared his huge knowledge of river geography and biology equally in English as well as Spanish and looked after everyone making sure we all had a great time. The Ebro River is really beautiful and we saw and heard lots of different birds. The trip was well-suited for beginners and experienced kayak users as well as young and old (our age range was 10 to 70 years). We were even supplied with a little snack and some info material about the river. We had the best day and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes wildlife or water sports. Thank you very much Néstor, we will definitely be back for the...
Read moreFantastic way to spend an evening! Our family (two adults plus two teenagers) did the evening cruise. We took the tram to the nearest stop to the starting point. It was a good 25 minute walk from the tram stop so leave plenty of time to get there.
We speak virtually no Spanish, but the guides' English was good enough to compensate. We also found that Spanish participants who spoke English were very eager to help out, so our lack of Spanish was no barrier to having a really enjoyable, safe evening on the river.
The evening started in the light and finished at night and it was lovely to experience night fall on the river. Zaragoza looked amazing from the water. The session ended about 15 minutes walk from the centre so really easy to take part in this activity if you don't have (or don't want to use) a car.
It was a really lovely way to spend the even ing that even our perpetually bored and cynical...
