Es troba al cim d’un turó a pocs quilòmetres del mar, a Calafell poble. És un un recinte fortificat de l’època medieval, està just al nucli històric del poble, també d’origen medieval.
Es troba documentat per primera vegada a l’any 1.037 (S.XI).
Al llarg del temps, aquest castell ha tingut diversos canvis i diferents funcions: A l’època de la Marca Hispànica va ser un castell fronterer per defendre a l’imperi franc dels musulmans. Posteriorment, es va transformar en un palau residencial d’estil gòtic per diferents famílies nobles. Al S.XV es va anar deteriorant, i a l’època de la Guerra dels Segadors es va destruir bona part. Amb el temps va ser un cementiri fins al 1938.
A l’any 1982 es va produir una excavació arqueològica i també es va restaurar per obrir-lo al públic Actualment encara es conserva la seva església d’estil romànic, SXI i l’altar de la Santa Creu. It is located on top of a hill a few kilometers from the sea, in the village of Calafell. It is a fortified enclosure from the medieval period, it is right in the historic center of the village, also of medieval origin.

Over time, this castle has had several changes and different functions: At the time of the Hispanic March it was a frontier castle to defend the Frankish empire of the Muslims. Later, it was transformed into a Gothic-style residential palace by different noble families. It deteriorated in the 15th century, and much of it was destroyed during the Reapers' War. Over time it was a cemetery until 1938.
An archeological excavation took place in 1982 and it was also restored to open to the public. Today, its Romanesque church, SXI and the altar of the Holy Cross are still preserved.
