Monte Hacho is a low mountain that disregards the Spanish city of Ceuta, on the north shore of Africa. Monte Hacho is situated on the Mediterranean drift at the Strait of Gibraltar inverse Gibraltar, and alongside the Rock of Gibraltar is guaranteed by some to be one of the Pillars of Hercules the other contender for the southern column being Jebel Musa. As indicated by the legend Hercules pushed separated the two mountains and made a connection between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. In established human progress it was known as Mons Abila Mount Abila or Abyla. Monte Hacho is an important hill that dominates the city. For this reason, it is a strategic spot, it being in itself a fort, because of its height. In this hill sit the forts of Hacho and Desnarigado, the latter being the present Army Museum. Monte Hacho is crowned by seven peaks. In one of them there is a lighthouse, which gives it its name: La Farola. At the top we find the hermitage of San Antonio, a place where popular pilgrimages are celebrated. Also at the top is San Amaro Park, home to a diverse flora. Monte Hacho is situated on the Peninsula de Almina and beaten by a stronghold, the Fortaleza de Hacho, which was first worked by the Byzantines, previously being added to by the Arabs, Portuguese and Spanish. It is currently involved by the Spanish armed force. Monte Hacho likewise has a religious community, Ermita de San Antonio, and Monumento del Llano Amarillo which is a landmark to Generalisimo Francisco Franco and the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in North Africa in 1936.
