It’s an okay place. The winery is pretty basic and probably doesn’t worth driving all the way on the dirt road – there are much more impressive wineries in this region. The wines they produce and sell at the bodega we found quite pricey (€18 and €25 per bottle). There is a little bar where you can have wine by glass but they pour veryyyy little (see the photo), which looks like tasting. In my opinion the winery should be more generous since this is what they produce, no? The owner was not welcoming at all, we felt rushed out. The only advantage of this place is their alpaca farm but you can’t interact with the animals unless you pay a full wine degustación set, only then you’ll be allowed to get closer. Otherwise they offer to “look” at alpacas…from the road. Well, they are there, happily hanging behind the fence, far far away. This trip was not worth it.

The Bodega Can Marlès is a wonderful vineyard and winery for visits, nestled in a beautiful valley of Baix Penedès, close to Tarragona and a 90 minute drive from Barcelona. The winery in quite new, but is already producing award winning wines, and our visit and tour was by the owner Lucia, who was extremely welcoming and a wonderful, informative host who is clearly passionate about her wines, her vineyards, and the Montmell area where she grew up.

I spent a week in and around Barcelona, and my visit here was one of the highlights. Lucia gives a fascinating tour of the vineyards, and feeding the alpacas was so much fun. The wine we tried during our tasting was delicious. Lucia was also incredibly patient with my very basic Spanish. Highly recommend!

Today I visited this winery. What struck me most was how much time and effort people put into this place. It’s hard for me to imagine how difficult it is to maintain such a territory and animals, but I’m sure it’s not easy. I admire these people and wish them strength and success in this difficult task. About the visit: The visit includes a walk around the territory, communication with alpacas and wine tasting in the company of the kindest dog in the world named Garnacha. All this takes about two hours. If you like wine or want to learn more about wine, I highly recommend...
