The Cape Cavalleria Lighthouse in Menorca is truly a hidden gem — perched atop dramatic cliffs overlooking the endless blue horizon. During my visit, I experienced one of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever seen. As the golden sun dipped into the Mediterranean, the sky exploded with fiery oranges, deep purples, and shimmering pinks that reflected off the undulating waves below.

As you get closer to the Cavalleria Cap of the isle of Minorca, with its oldest cape, it really seems to reach the end of the world. The landscape becomes more and more rarefied: more and more shrubs, limestones, blue sky and blue sea. And silence, a deep silence. The same you can live at Zabriskie Point in the Death Valley, California. You should reach the Cavalleria Cap about one hour before the sunset, the best of Minorca. El faro se encuentra en el cabo de Cavalleria. Está ubicado en el punto más septentrional de Menorca y en uno de los acantilados más altos de la isla. Algunos de estos acantilados llegan a los 100 metros de altura, así que hay que ir con cuidado por donde se pisa, sobre todo si te sales del recinto vallado del faro. El faro de Cavalleria es el más antiguo de los siete faros que se conservan en Menorca y el que se encuentra más al norte de la isla. Se erigió en el año 1857 con el fin de acabar con los múltiples naufragios que se producían en esta zona de la isla (más de 700 entre los siglos XIV al XIX), debido a la gran cantidad de pequeños islotes y salientes rocosos de la costa norte. Se puede llegar hasta el faro en coche a través de una estrecha carretera por la que suelen ir bastantes ciclistas, así que conviene circular con precaución. Hay un parking gratuito muy cerca del faro, apenas a unos metros. Aunque si no hay sitio en este aparcamiento el más cercano estaría en la playa de Cavalleria, a bastante distancia del faro, unos cuatro kilómetros. Justo enfrente del faro se encuentra una antigua cantera romana de piedra marés, que era utilizada antiguamente para la construcción de edificios y monumentos. Y no muy lejos de aquí se encuentran los restos de un antiguo campamento romano, así como el puerto de Sanitja, construido en época romana para transportar esta típica piedra menorquina. Desde la base del faro las vistas son increíbles, especialmente al atardecer contemplando la puesta de sol, probablemente una de las más icónicas y bonitas que se pueden ver en Menorca. En el propio edificio del faro está el Centro de Interpretación del "Cap de Cavalleria" donde se muestran distintos aspectos del entorno, su geología, paisaje y biología, así como la historia del propio faro. En verano el faro cierra sobre las 20 horas, aunque el resto del año cierra bastante antes, sobre las 14 horas.
