After reading some of the reviews, I wasn't sure whether to go with my 3 young kids and elderly mother but we are so glad we did! The animals are clearly happy and well looked after. The staff are very helpful and service good.
We stayed in the Zulu villa which was lovely and clean with stunning views 😍 bring tea, coffee, water, snacks etc for the villa if you want something right away in the room. Breakfast by the lake included with the room and entry to the park also included so extremely good value!
On checkin to a stay at Selwo, you will receive a small booklet with details on for room and activities reserved for you, don't ignore it, otherwise you may miss activities that come with your stay also like the serenghetti. This was one of our highlights as we got right next to the animals like zebra and hippos!! We even fed the zebras! There is no queue for the safari, it is simply a small group waiting for their time to get on the truck. The small booklet will tell you which area of the park to wait.(we waited only 5 mins before getting on the truck)
Aside from walking around the zoo, there are so many activities to do! We did the "get to know our birds" activity which was much better than expected, we all loved it.
They also have a stunning hang bridge and a zipline that even my 73 year old mum had a go on! My kids were too small but the adults sure had fun on the zipline, its not a fast one dont worry 😁
Obviously wear comfortable shoes and sunscreen/hats because the animals are given plenty of space, it does require a good walk. There were plenty of shaded areas and benches for mum to sit when needed.
The only improvement I can think so far is the signposting to the toilets 😅 the bushes make the toilets harder to find, so the signposting could be clearer or more frequent.
The best thing was probably arriving for check in just as the park was closing. That meant we could walk around at sunset with the calmness after the crowds were gone and only the sounds of the animals left it was magical! The restaurant stays open until around 11pm so we took a nice wander down past the lemurs and got some late dinner around 9pm. You completely forget where you are, it feels like...
Read moreTook my toddler there today for his birthday. I was given tickets the day before as a present. My son was so excited about the bus in safari. When we arrived at the "bus stop", the bus was leaving with empty seats. When the next bus approached after 15 minutes they would not let us board because they told me its extra. Soo I walked all the way back to the main entrance from the other end, to be lied to that they are fully booked and that I should of booked online. Booked a 10 minute ride online??? I book only flights to other countries online. Its October 13, not middle of summer, plus my tickets were given as a gift so my only option was to buy it over there. My son was very sad on his birthday, it just broke my and his heart. I went online to pretend to buy the ticket for the same day and to add the bus and it was possible for that day!!!!! So they lied??? I tried to buy bus only online but you cab buy it only with entrance ticket, obviously I will not pay over 60 euros for 10 min bus ride. The park wasn't even busy!!! Extremely angry that they lied and broke my little child's heart. Besides, they had many idle buses!. On top it was Extremely overpriced. I ordered " Caprese" sandwich. I paid 15 euros ( caprese plus 6 chicken nuggets). When my "caprese" was ready it was with cheddar cheese and not with mozzarella!!! And it was 15 euros=20 USD for a sandwich and 6 nuggets. On top of that, the staff is very rude and unfriendly. The jumping section was closed, but zip line was open, which my son was too light to use. There is more walking than you see the animals. Many "cages" just empty or Extremely hard to see thru. I am absolutely dissatisfied, definitely not be returning there. And I do not recommend it. Its not as nice as it sounds. I've been to better zoos and friendlier staff. Go to Fuengirola zoo. It's smaller and the staff was friendly and professional. Over there you could get close to the animals, while here you could barely see them. Thank you for ruing my sons...
Read moreEven for someone who has seen a lot of Zoos, Selwo Aventura is likely to come across as a pleasant surprise. As mentioned in one if the other reviews, the experience would get positively amplified if you are visiting the park with kids.
I had 2 kids, aged 7 and 2 with me. Was prepared for the worst given what I read about steep climbs and long walks. Fortunately, it wasn't bad at all. And the excitement began right at the entrance as the kids spotted a peacock. Past the meerkats, the rope bridge, the lemurs, the elephants, giraffes and onto the lions at the end, it was a very swift one and half hour.
Caught a bite at the restaurant at the top (food is not bad at all) and went for the Safari Serengeti. Lovely bi-lingual and knowledgeable guide took us visiting rhinos, hippos, zebras, giraffes, hippos and various antelopes. Got the kids excited further by allowing them to feed the zebras. A quick 30 minute tour. And No, the lions aren't part of the safari.
On the way back to the exit, we discovered more enclosures which we had missed on our way up. And most of them allowed us to walk through - the maras, pygmy goats, flamingos, hyenas, various birds... Though there were demonstrations and interactions as per a fixed schedule we didn't do any.
The park was beautifully maintained and the staff appeared well trained and committed to what they were doing. Kudos to Selwo for doing such a great job.
The added bonus was 2 very tired kids who promptly fell asleep the moment we returned to our hotel after the...
