I do recommend the experience but it's only an 'alright' zoo and nothing amazing. Unfortunately the animals don't have any friends unless it's regulated - i.e. flock animals. Most of the animals are singular - i.e. 1 alligator, 1 snake, 1 elephant, 1 giraffe, etc... If they improve that, it will be less depressing to watch them in their habitat. LOTS of up-hill walking and with the reported drought, they have turned off the water-misters on the route. That means the much-needed water-misters they put in to cool the tired customers in the dangerous heat are no longer there. I do recommend the Safari if you go there, it's an up-close visit to all the animals you can see from high-up in the 2nd part of the park. The tour guide was amazing and had a good passion for the role. The other talks in the parks - it felt more like us English would be an inconvenience if we listen in as the other people (3 or 4 per) are all Spanish and the talker would have to repeat themselves in English. The meeting points aren't consistent or clear either - we were waiting where it shows on the map and they met up the opposite side and were half-way through their Spanish talk of the Cheaters. Anyway - worth going but take some water, expect to sit down to rest a lot, go to the Safari, and the restaurants are really decent.

Partner and I decided to make a stop at Selwo during our recent trip to Marbella. The zoo is well sign posted and very easy to find with ample parking. The ticket prices are very reasonable and if you go during the week it's very quiet. We go to a lot of zoos and I have to say out of all the ones we visit, the animals here are some of the best cared for that I have ever seen. There is a huge variety to see, with plenty of shadey areas to sit down and rest if you need to get out of the sun for a bit. Be aware that the zoo itself is a lot bigger than it looks initially, little ones may tire from the walking. There is plenty of disabled access as well as plenty of bathrooms. The food and drink seems very reasonably priced. There are several different extra attractions in the park including archery, a zip wire and a safari. All of which cost extra and note that the safari should be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. I would love to return again and highly recommend! Beautiful views of Benahavis also, from several locations around the zoo.

What can I say - it really was an adventure! Visited the park with a family of 4, including pre-school children and everybody enjoyed it. Starting from a welcome photo (which was with really good quality) to a wide variety of animals, it had everything you’d expect from a zoo, but it didn’t end there. They had a long zipline over a pond, a couple of hanging bridges and we also participated in a “safari ride” which was cool. There was an english-speaking guide who talked about the animals while we were driving between them in an open truck, making stops in each enclosure. We could see them up close and also feed zebras. The bird area was also awesome - huge area with a net so you could walk where the birds were flying. Red panda was really active and our favourite this time around. All of the employees understood English, so that wasn’t a problem either. Park was easy to find and access by car, not sure about other means of transportation as it was quite a drive from Benalmadena..

Pleasantly surprised by this place. We went in October, and it was very quiet, with lots of additional attractions closed (zip line, trampolines, some food kiosks etc) but this didn’t bother us. We saw lots of animals we haven’t seen in English zoos, my favourite was the vultures, which are absolutely huge! We paid the extra for the Serengeti Safari and really enjoyed it. It’s only about half an hour, but you get closer to some animals - rhinos, zebra and hippos mainly. There’s also a guide on the bus, and ours spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable and funny. The food wasn’t too bad - hot dog was decent - but it was an expensive day out. For me and my daughter, admission, safari, parking and lunch was close to €100 and we were there for 4 hours. Oh and the toilets are impossible to find! The app didn’t seem to show us where they were either. But when we did find them they were very clean.

Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Well....we really enjoyed it. The park is clearly well run and all of the animals seem healthy and looked after. There is a good variety of animals and activities to do. We went on the Jeep Safari which was a highlight, but again quite expensive and could have been longer. The park is huge, so prepare for lots of walking. There are plenty of cafes and vending machines for refreshments, and cool water spraying round the paths with good shade. There are things for younger kids to do, like the trampoline jumpers and little rides to go on. There are a couple of large site maps and you can download to your phone once there, if you have internet that is. One thing I despise is having to pay for parking when the entrance fee is already so high, why bother? Buy tickets online for a small discount.
