We had an exclusive reservation for the visit to the family Winery Sers and a subsequent wine tasting. I have known selected wines from the Bodega Sers before and thoroughly enjoyed their quality, but I never realised that a small family operation can achieve such an exceptional quality, on par with many larger scale producers. We were met by the owner and given a tour, engaged in very nuanced secrets of wine making, followed by the actual tasting. The fact that the these wine producers are bravely experimenting with techniques and grapes to achieve the most refined sabores, fascinated me the most. For example creatively titrating the percentage of wines aged in barrica with those exposed to tinaja (clay made amphora), and it is purely to the liking of the chief wine maker of the bodega… all wines we tasted (Blanque de Chardonnay, Singular de Parraleta and Dinantes de Moristel), were very rich and distinct on the nose and palate. Pablo gave us an incredible tour and tasting experience. It’s a true family-run operation, just him and his brother, carrying on a lifelong tradition. You can feel Pablo’s passion for winemaking in every word he shares — it’s both inspiring and authentic.
This place is a hidden gem. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it — you won’t regret it.
Side note: there’s even Templar history tied to the winery’s location, which was an awesome...
