La Fontcalda (warm spring) — Attraction in Gandesa

Was there in December, the water (in the small pool that's directly fed by the spring coming out of the rock face next to it) is still a bit warm and definitely enjoyable after jumping in the freezing cold river right next to it. Tuve la suerte de visitar La Fontcalda con mi familia y fue una experiencia inolvidable. Es un rincón natural único, donde el río, los senderos entre montañas y las aguas termales se combinan para crear un paisaje de ensueño.

Nada más llegar nos sorprendió la tranquilidad del entorno: un bosque de olivos precioso, caminos bien señalizados y zonas de picnic muy agradables para comer al aire libre. Decidimos hacer una pequeña ruta a pie antes de bañarnos y fue todo un acierto. El recorrido, aunque en algunos tramos puede ser algo exigente (sobre todo si vas con niños muy pequeños o personas con movilidad reducida), nos regaló vistas espectaculares y rincones escondidos llenos de encanto.

Al llegar al río, no pudimos resistirnos: el agua estaba a una temperatura perfecta, ni fría ni caliente, ideal para refrescarse sin pasar frío. Incluso descubrimos una pequeña "bañera" de aguas templadas donde los niños se lo pasaron en grande y nosotros nos relajamos como si estuviéramos en un spa natural.

Además del entorno natural, disfrutamos mucho del restaurante del balneario. Se come fenomenal y el trato fue excelente. La pequeña capilla añade un toque especial al lugar, como si el tiempo se detuviera allí.

Eso sí, el acceso en coche no es el más fácil: la carretera es estrecha y con bastantes curvas. Pero si vas con calma y paciencia, el destino merece absolutamente la pena.

Ver ciervos, peces y hasta cangrejos de río en su hábitat natural fue el broche de oro para un día mágico. Salimos de allí con el corazón lleno y muchas ganas de volver. Un lugar para desconectar, respirar y recordar por qué es tan importante cuidar de estos tesoros...

It is a very beautiful place, but we expected a hot spring, in fact it is not really a hot spring. It is a warm spring. The temperature of the small pool beside the river has about 25° which is nice but it won’t keep you warm for long the only way to feel really warm there is to 1st jump into the cold river which I personally also enjoy.
