It is nice that the center is finally there. As a parent, but also as a professional astrophysicist, I found it somewhat disappointing.
Many reviews mention that the exhibition is interactive. However, the actual interaction is almost entirely limited to the visualization gadgets. The content itself is quite static with a lot of text, not so intetested for kids. The museum of science in Tenerife does a much better job in that sense explaining the fundamentals of science behind astronomy and astronomical observations.
The visualization of the telescope structure and interior may be very interesting both for professionals and for general public, but it somehow stays in the middle. For the general public it would be very important to actually compare a telescope and its parts to well known optical devices like photocamera or human eye.
Unfortunatelly many of the interactive devices in the center don't work or work in erratic way.
I hope that the exhibition will evolve in the coming years. What is on display now lags behind an obviously significant investment into the building and devices. To improve, I would suggest working more on the actual concept than on the fancy presentations.
Finally, the tickets are far too expensive. Especially for the residents, the price should be symbolic, an...

it is a shame that it is being so mutilated by science. and what we are offered in the visitor center is a disgrace. the lady at the reception explained that for 15€ we can enjoy a guided tour for an hour. residents only pay half. we think that European citizens and especially those living on La Palma should of course have free entry. after all we helped to finance all of this. and then we don't even have our own telescope??? and we aren't even allowed to look through one??? that's a joke without having to laugh! we are little scientists too!! it is also a disgrace that there are no brochures available at the reception for information. and the room with overpriced refreshments is really poor. Incapable of building a small restaurant... all this for several million euros of taxpayers' money....
Read moreI visited the site when it just opened en there was no entrance. I see it's potential and I was actually quite enthusiastic. But seeing the price I don't think I would recommend it to a family. Sorry but there's still a lot to do, and this is still La Palma. You'll notice clearly it is not finished yet. There's a lack of a "red line" that would intrigue the kids more. Now there are just "islands" from which I sometimes don't get the point. (could be me though). I would suggest to at least give a family discount, that would convince more people to enter, might be even commercially better. I alone already know several families that decided not to pay. It is certainly interesting and as said there is potential to increase general knowledge about the telescopes in a...
