Mirador de Zamariain — Attraction in Garaioa

Very difficult to find, drove back and forward around the mountain. I would suggest not putting Mirador de Zamariain in your Google maps search. Instead put in the town of Garaioa where you can park and walk/hike up to it. I didn’t do that as it takes at least an hour waking uphill. instead there is a small narrow road which I am not going to give you the name of as I’m sure the locals wouldn’t want increased traffic on it as there are parts where there is only space for one car so if you met an oncoming car you would have to reverse. I had to ask someone so I’ll leave you do the same. You go slowly driving for around 10 mins and you will see a track right in front of you with some old wooden sign posts, turn right and park. Follow the track for 1.3km and you will see a mound of reddish/rusty coloured rocks, that’s where yo go behind to find the outcrop. It’s sorta towards the left, had to follow a few paths to find the right one. It’s definitely not for the feint hearted. My husband took the photo and was terrified and he wasn’t even on the outcrop! Un Mirador de los más bonitos de España, que merece la pena visitar. Lo llaman el Mirador del Rey León, las fotos que puedes hacer al llegar son increíbles. COMO LLEGAR: Google Maps te lleva bastante bien hasta el, con algún detalle que debes conocer. Llegas al pueblo de Garayoa......y empiezas a subir por una carretera estrecha .......el firme es como de hormigón de color blanco.....no abandones está carretera de hormigón blanco nunca siguiendo las instrucciones de Google Maps. Llega un sitio dentro de un bosque donde hay izquierda y derecha ..... tienes que seguir a la derecha.....Maps no te lo indica bien.....yo lo descubrí mirando el suelo de hormigón blanco.....podían poner un cartel .....lo hice por lógica.......el suelo blanco parecía continuar por la derecha más que por la izquierda. Cuidado en la carretera es estrecha y no pasan 2 coches en algunos sitios. Mejor ir días entre semana para no cruzarse con otro coche. Llega un momento que llegas arriba y hay un sitio para dejar el coche. Y unos carteles. Dejas el coche donde puedas y mirando el cartel de madera sigues andando por un camino que hay a la izquierda que va hacia arriba. No hay mucho sitio para dejar coches. Subiendo por el camino, a unos 15-20 minutos andando verás un montón grande de piedras apiladas (te dejo la foto de las piedras)...... IMPORTANTE: Las piedras indican que estás al lado del mirador. No hay ningún cartel ni nada. Desde el montón de piedras bajas entre los árboles con cuidado y está el mirador. Yo como no lo sabía me pase de largo y tuve que estar buscando el mirador hasta que me di cuenta que estaba detrás de las piedras. Cuidado al hacer las fotos......hay mucha altura. No te despistes que te puedas caer.

I loved the view, but the goats did too, so be careful if you go there and don't bring any food if you don't want to be bothered by them. Also, count with the fact that if you go during weekend and when the weather is nice, it can happen you will need to wait to take a picture there, mostly if there are the goats as well. I am pregnant, so it took us around 30 minutes from the place we parked the car to get there, but the terrain was quite easy to walk, only one part with higher rocks required to be extra careful and I would not recommend it...
