I first came to the Natural Park back in the 1990s - birding then, as always. Following the road from Bagà to the Coll de Pal is a pretty good birding route, if you know where to stop, wait, or walk a little away from the road. In fact, after a couple of visits I wrote a birding itinerary which still features on the Birding In Spain website.

At different times of the year and with different doses of luck and effort it is possible to see Bearded Vulture, Citril Finch, Alpine Accentor, Alpine Chough, Black Woodpecker, Wallcreeper, Crested Tit, Ring Ouzel, Crossbil and perhaps even Snowfinch. Also approaching from the south there's another quite interesting route passing by the village of Castellar de n'Hug and up to the Coll de la Creueta. Look out for Chamois and Alpine Marmots too.

It's more verdant on the northern slopes, and there are the ski resorts of La Molina and Masella which don't exactly enhance the natural beauty of the area, but also don't completely overpower it either. You may be lucky and find a café or two open even in the off-season. As for birds, the rare Tengmalm's Owl breeds in the general area, although I've never seen it myself.

In the last few years I've taken bird and butterfly tour groups to this area in late May, but unfortunately the cold springs that we had then damped down the butterfly list a bit. I haven't given up hope though, so hopefully in the next year or so there'll be some interesting butterflies...

Went here on a tour in early February and I really enjoyed the scenic and beautiful gorgeous mountain views from the town of Baja.

The park is very beautiful from afar, it is captivating and the mist and fog that you see in the morning is spectacular. The sun shines down on the little valleys of the park and it is just almost fairy tale like in a way that it captivates you.

Highly recommend a visit especially in the early mornings. Seeing the sunrise in the valley and the park...
