The El Mirador del Río viewpoint is located 500 meters above a cliff and offers spectacular panoramic views of Lanzarote and the Chinijo archipelago.

Inaugurated in the 70s, it is one of César Manrique's most representative architectural works for the integration of the human hand into the natural environment, a harmonious formula that combines art and nature.

Its entrance is guarded by a sculpture by Manrique depicting a bird and a fish. They are a metaphor for water and air, the elements of the larger presence in the environment.

After passing through an impressive entrance we find two impressive arched windows. They are the eyes of the viewpoint through which Manrique has conceived an exceptional panoramic view.

From here we can see the slopes of the Risco de Famara, and then we see El Río: a narrow strip of sea that gives the viewpoint its name and separates Lanzarote from La Graciosa, the eighth Canary Island.

Behind them are the Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste and Alegranza mountains, which together with the Roque del Este form the Chinijo archipelago, a small archipelago known for its volcanic landscapes and its rich marine protected area, currently the largest in Europe. is unique worldwide.

Inside the Mirador there are two large sculptures by Manrique and other decorative details typical of the artist, as well as the spiral staircase, a bar-cafeteria area, the spectacular upper terrace and the gift shop.

The construction of El Mirador took two years and was supervised by Eduardo Cáceres and Jesús Soto. First, the site was excavated and, once the work was completed, it was covered with volcanic rock so that it would harmonize with the surroundings and respect the landscape features that characterize...

Good place Mirador del Río is a viewpoint on an approximately 475-metre-high (1,560 ft) escarpment called Batería del Río in the north of the Canarian island of Lanzarote The location was created in between 1971 and 19731] by the local artist César Manrique in his typical style, consisting of a balustraded cafe, a souvenir shop and a platform on its top which are integrated in the lava rock. The technical realization of the work was carried out by Eduardo Cáceres and Jesús Soto and it was in 1973 when El Mirador del Río was inaugurated. Its surroundings have been declared a protected natural area.[2] The building has the peculiarity that is barely visible from the outside thanks to a subtle and ingenious camouflage manoeuvre of hiding its structure under a heavy stone skin that blends in with the environment.

After accessing inside the building through a winding corridor, there are two spacious vaulted rooms with two large glass windows—the eyes of the Mirador—that allow contemplating an extraordinary panoramic view over the Strait of El Río (naming the viewpoint) towards the archaic island of La Graciosa. Also, on clear days, beyond the view of La Graciosa, the small islands of Montaña Clara and Roque del Oeste can be seen, with the furthest of them all being Alegranza.[3] All of these are part of the Chinijo...
